The successful candidate will have a degree in Urban and Regional Planning or a related discipline such as social sciences, environmental design, urban design, or a similar field, and membership in or eligibility for membership with the Canadian Institute of Planners. A master’s degree and eligibility for membership in the Alberta Professional Planners Institute is preferred. The Senior Planner will have a Class 5 Driver’s License and a minimum of five (5) years of related experience, with knowledge of the Municipal Government Act and relevant Provincial regulations. Experience writing and interpreting planning policy and undertaking the Land Use Bylaw and subdivision processes is required. The incumbent will have an understanding and experience in developing and amending statutory and non-statutory long range plans such as Municipal Development Plans, Area Structure Plans, and Outline Plans. Project Management experience will be an asset. This position requires a high degree of computer literacy, with experience using Microsoft Office applications, GIS Software, AutoCAD and Adobe Acrobat.
The incumbent will have strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate, negotiate, and address conflicts with internal and external stakeholders confidently, positively, and respectfully. The successful candidate must have a problem solving and solution oriented mindset and also demonstrate the ability to adapt to changing priorities and shifting demands in a fast-paced environment.
