Responsible for physical set-up, cleanliness and maintenance of all Banquet equipment and function rooms, as well as their related areas while ensuring that Marriott Standards of Quality in Banquets is upheld by providing the best guest experience.
YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES MAY INCLUDE:
- Be able to read a Banquet Event Order and set up rooms according to the BEO'S.
- Be thoroughly familiar with the location of all function rooms and related areas and the various types of workable setups.
- Correctly and efficiently set-up and break-down all department functions.
- Be familiar with (and practice) the safe handling care and storage of all Banquet equipment.
- Assist guests whenever possible, referring all requests which are beyond the scope of your responsibility immediately to your supervisor.
- Keep the function room area and storage areas clean and neat at all times.
- Perform periodic cleaning of the area, as assigned by Banquet Manager.
- All equipment not in use should be returned to its proper storage area in a clean condition before the end of each shift.
- Report all damage to equipment, furnishings or the rooms promptly to the Banquet Manager so that repairs may be made before damage worsens and/or accidents result. (Make sure equipment is in proper working order before being placed in a function room for guest use).
- Check electrical hook-ups for proper working order and tape down all exposed cords for equipment.
- Service/freshen all meeting rooms during breaks. Check temperature and see if all lights are working and adjusted properly.
- Attend departmental meetings.
- Eliminate safety hazards and report all injuries and accidents to the Banquet Manager.
- Carefully follow all energy conservation and accident/ loss prevention guidelines.
- Perform any additional department-related duties as assigned by Banquet Manager.
- Adhere to all division and local standard policies and procedures.
- Perform all guest contact activities in a cordial, efficient and professional manner at all times, maintaining a commitment to guest satisfaction.
- Maintain a cooperative, team-like attitude in working with supervisors and fellow Hosts (both within the department-and in other hotel departments), to help to achieve the hotel’s common goals of maximizing guest satisfaction and profit margins.
- Maintain a positive attitude toward the hotel and the job being performed.
- Report to work on time (as scheduled) and in proper uniform/attire.
- Other reasonable duties as required.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS:
Education/Experience and skills
- Previous Banquet porter experience in a hotel or similar environment.
- Previous customer service experience required
- Must be able to work variable shifts.
- Proficiency in both official languages (English & French) preferred.
Complexity/Analysis:
- Excellent communication skills in both official languages (English & French) preferred.
- Superior Service Excellence skills to exceed guest expectations.
- Excellent planning & organizational skills.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Able to perform physically demanding tasks (standing, bending, lifting and walking throughout the shift).
- Must be available to work a flexible schedule (days, evenings, weekends and holidays).
- Able to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Proven team player.
- Driver’s license for a 5 ton truck is an asset.
