Red Seal Journeyman Electrician – Residential Service & Small Projects
Harcon Electric and Controls Ltd. is hiring an experienced Red Seal electrician for a permanent, full-time residential service and small-project role based in the Comox Valley.
This is an independent field position for someone who can take ownership of service calls, renovations, panel changes, service upgrades and smaller residential projects without constant supervision. The successful candidate will work primarily on their own from a fully outfitted company cube van. Apprentices may be assigned as the company grows.
This is not a production housing position. Most of our work is in existing and occupied homes, where troubleshooting ability, organization, clean workmanship and professional customer communication matter.
Typical work
- Residential service calls and troubleshooting
- Renovations, additions and alterations
- Residential service upgrades and panel replacements
- EV charger installations
- Heat-pump and HVAC electrical work
- Hot tubs, generators and other larger residential loads
- Lighting, receptacles, controls and equipment connections
- Small residential projects and occasional light-commercial work
- Limited after-hours emergency service
The successful applicant must be able to independently plan and complete a residential service upgrade, including assessing existing conditions, identifying required materials, organizing the work, completing a clean installation and leaving it ready for inspection and utility reconnection.
Responsibilities
- Complete residential service and renovation work safely and efficiently
- Diagnose electrical faults using a logical troubleshooting process
- Review work orders, drawings and site conditions before beginning work
- Identify scope changes and contact the owner before proceeding with significant additional work
- Provide clear job notes, site photos and material records
- Maintain accurate documentation so completed work can be invoiced promptly
- Keep the company vehicle, tools and material inventory organized
- Protect finished surfaces and leave customer homes clean
- Communicate clearly and professionally with homeowners, inspectors, suppliers and coworkers
- Participate in occasional after-hours emergency calls
- Assist with and eventually price straightforward small jobs once experience and judgment have been established
Larger projects and unfamiliar estimates will continue to be priced by the owner.
Required qualifications
- Red Seal Construction Electrician certification
- Strong residential service and renovation experience
- Proven ability to independently complete residential service upgrades
- Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic ability
- Clean, organized and code-compliant workmanship
- Strong written documentation and organizational skills
- Ability to work independently and manage a daily service schedule
- Professional customer communication
- Valid BC Class 5 driver’s licence with an acceptable driving record
- Ability to work in crawlspaces, attics and other typical residential environments
- Willingness to travel within our service area and participate in limited after-hours emergency work
Experience with EV charging, generators, solar, battery systems, HVAC controls or light-commercial service is an asset but not required.
Compensation and work area
- $46.12 per hour
- Permanent, full-time position
- Approximately 40 hours per week
- Fully outfitted company cube van provided
- Company vehicle may be taken home
- After-hours emergency calls paid at overtime rates, door to door
- Work is primarily within the Comox Valley, with occasional travel south to Parksville and north to Campbell River
Applicants must live in Courtenay, Comox or the surrounding Comox Valley area. This position is not intended for a long-distance daily commute.
