Maplewood House and MSA Manor are long term care homes in Abbotsford operated by Maplewood Care Society, a non-profit organization dedicated to the pursuit of excellence in supporting individuals with chronic illness. There are 112 people who live in the two care homes. There is also a Day Program for Older Adults serving an average of 65 clients per week and support for caregivers.
We are currently seeking to fill casual positions at our Maplewood House location:
Casual – Food Services Cook
Overview
As a member of the Food Services team upholding Maplewood Care Society’s (MCS’s) Vision, Mission, Philosophy Statements, and established policies and procedures, committing to professional and facility codes of ethics and functions within the regulations, standards and guidelines governing residential care.
Responsible for preparation, storage, and service of menu items, to the required standards, as specified by the Food Services Supervisor. Responsibilities also include the maintenance of the work area in a clean, safe and orderly manner and the supervision of food services staff in the absence of the Food Services Supervisor.
- Minimum Grade 10 or equivalent is required and must possess a recognized diploma in industrial cooking and completion of Food Safe Level 2.
- One-year recent related experience or equivalent combination of education, training and experience, preferably in a health care environment.
- Be in good health and have the mental and physical capacity for the demands of a commercial kitchen.
- Must possess strong English comprehension (written and verbal).
- Have the ability to communicate effectively, organize daily operations and supervise staff as needed.
- Able to perform repetitious jobs involving lifting, bending, and stretching.
- Be respectful and empathetic to the needs and dignity of long-term care residents.
- Be knowledgeable in current WHIMIS training.
Compensation: Commensurate with the current collective agreement.
Work Schedule: This position is on an on-call, as-needed basis.
