The Building and Technical Standards Branch of the Ministry of Government Relations is looking for a leader experienced in construction codes and technical safety standards to develop, adopt, and implement codes and standards in Saskatchewan.
Our ideal candidate is self-motivated and experienced in the use and application of construction codes and standards, and able to communicate with stakeholders how the legislative framework, codes and standards apply to building construction in Saskatchewan.
Reporting to the Chief Codes Administrator, the successful candidate will:
- Provide advice to stakeholders about the application of construction codes in Saskatchewan including the legislative framework that applies it to owners, municipalities, building and fire officials and industry;
- Develop and deliver an effective regulatory model for compliance with construction codes in collaboration with colleagues and stakeholders;
- Develop advisories, guides workshops and presentations on the application of construction codes.
- Review building official training and licensing for approval;
- Review municipal building bylaws for approval;
- Typically, the knowledge and experience required to achieve the above is obtained through:
- Several years of experience and competency in the use and application of construction codes and technical safety standards;
- Registered with or eligible for registration with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Saskatchewan and licensed to practice professional engineering;
- Registered with or eligible for registration with the Saskatchewan Association of Architects and licensed as an architect in Saskatchewan; or
- An architectural technologist or equivalent registered with or eligible to be licensed by Technology Professionals Saskatchewan.
Supplemented with:
- A building official licence with municipal, industry or government experience;
- Training in the use and application of energy codes; or
- Any combination of experience, competency and credentials noted above.
