Job Summary
Reporting to the Lead Estimator or upper management, the successful candidate will be responsible for preparing high-quality, professional quotations and estimates for miscellaneous metals and structural steel scopes of work for multi-unit, commercial, and institutional construction projects. The role requires strong hands-on experience in misc. metals estimation, with ongoing technical engagement with clients from tender through project completion, including budget reviews, scope clarification, and change order pricing.
The ideal candidate has deep knowledge of structural steel and miscellaneous metals, understands construction risk, and is comfortable reviewing all construction documents, including drawings, specifications, schedules, codes, and standards across multiple disciplines. You are entrepreneurial at heart, and an innovative, creative team player who leads by example in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
Key Responsibilities
Background in estimation of structural steel and miscellaneous metals is required.
Estimating & Technical Scope
- Prepare accurate estimates of probable costs for materials, fabrication, installation labour, equipment, and subcontracted work for railings, guards, stairs, ladders, complex canopy structures, steel roof framing, steel walkway framing, and other miscellaneous metals
- Produce competitive bid submissions and pricing for material orders, while maintaining clear, referenceable work records
- Review and interpret all construction documents—including drawings, specifications, schedules, codes, and standards—to define scope, identify risks, and capture missing or implied items
- Analyze tender documents, addenda, inclusions, exclusions, and assumptions to ensure complete and defensible final pricing
- Participate in and/or lead bid reviews, budget meetings, scope clarifications, and contract negotiations with clients
- Provide ongoing technical clarification and client support from project award through completion
- Prepare and maintain project forecasts, expenditure tracking, and pricing updates throughout the project lifecycle
- Price change orders, revisions, and extras accurately and in a timely manner
- Assist in monitoring construction conformity with approved drawings, specifications, schedules, codes, and standards
- Attend site meetings and pre-bid walkthroughs as required to support estimating accuracy and project execution
Client & Sales Support
- Assist in evaluating prospective projects to determine strategic fit, risk profile, and pricing approach
- Support the company’s sales strategy through accurate pipeline tracking and opportunity management using Salesforce
- Maintain and strengthen client relationships with developers, general contractors, and consultants
- Participate in business development and networking activities to support future work opportunities
Internal Coordination
- Monitor and provide input on production schedules for on-time deliveries and site installations
- Help solicit, review, and evaluate material supplier and install pricing
- Collaborate with management, engineering, drafting, production, and installation teams
- Participate in bid reviews, scope meetings, and contract negotiations
- Adopt and help improve company systems, processes, and help maintain historical cost data
Qualifications & Experience
- Strong understanding of GTA and Southern Ontario’s construction practices, site coordination, and sequencing
- Proven ability to read and interpret full construction document sets (including drawings, specifications Codes and Standards) across all disciplines
- Experience with tender platforms (e.g., BuildingConnected, BidCentral)
- Strong Excel skills; estimating software experience an asset
- Highly organized, detail-oriented, and confident communicator
- Comfortable operating in a small-company, hands-on environment

Requirements
- 10+ years estimating experience in miscellaneous metals or structural steel coordinating multiple projects; experience in the construction industry and tendering process is strongly preferred
- Strong business and financial acumen; including strong business communication skills, both written and oral
- High-energy, detail-oriented, results-driven, self-motivated individual
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
- Reliability, integrity, passion and in-person presentation skills with a strong ability to establish relationships and close deals
- Exceptional, industry leading, customer service skills with a proven strength in exceeding client expectations and an ability to identify best product and fit for client needs
- Excellent planning, coordination, and scheduling skills
- University degree in Architecture, Building Science or, technical College diploma related to construction, building envelopes or similar, is considered an important asset
- A valid driver's license and access to a vehicle an asset
- Familiarity and/or experience with various computer software and technical systems by way of obtaining product quotes and managing customer information
- Previous experience in with client relationships, both maintaining and acquiring new relationships an important asset.
- Intermediate level (or better) in CAD and Microsoft Excel required; experience with other drafting and estimating programs are an asset
