Position Summary
Elmwood School is seeking a reliable, detail-oriented Custodian/Gardener to support the care of our campus grounds and the upkeep of our facilities. This is a hands-on, dual-role position suited to an individual who takes pride in their work, enjoys variety in their day, and can work independently while contributing to a collaborative team.
From maintaining vibrant outdoor spaces to supporting the smooth operation of the school through general repairs and maintenance, this role plays an important part in ensuring a safe, welcoming, and well-cared-for environment for students and staff.
Key Responsibilities
Groundskeeping and Landscaping
- Perform general lawn care duties including mowing, raking, mulching, weeding, fertilizing, edging, and pruning.
- Maintain and tend to flower beds and landscaped areas.
- Apply pesticides and treatments as required for weed and plant control, in accordance with safety guidelines.
- Ensure outdoor spaces are clean, safe, and visually appealing across all seasons.
Custodian and maintenance
- Sweep and wash the floors, stairwells and washrooms
- Remove garbage
- Set up furniture for events
- Perform general school maintenance tasks and minor repairs, including basic carpentry, painting, and equipment upkeep.
- Assist with preventative maintenance and respond to day-to-day maintenance requests.
- Support seasonal duties such as snow removal, salting, and general property care.
- Assist with event setup and takedown as required.
General Responsibilities
- Operate and maintain tools and equipment safely, including lawnmowers, trimmers, blowers, edgers, and hand tools.
- Complete detailed daily reports outlining work performed and any maintenance concerns.
- Monitor and report safety issues, repair needs, and equipment requirements.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Skills
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in landscaping, facilities maintenance, or a similar role.
- Experience using a variety of hand tools and maintenance equipment.
- Basic knowledge of building maintenance and basic repair skills.
- Strong attention to detail and a dependable, proactive work ethic.
- Excellent stamina and ability to perform physically demanding work in various weather conditions.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Friendly, professional demeanour with strong interpersonal skills
- Clean driver's licence

Pay: $21.00-$24.00 per hour
