DESCRIPTION: Food Prep Laboratory Assistant– Burnaby, BC
The Prep Lab Assistant supports daily sample preparation activities in a food testing environment. This hands-on role focuses primarily on preparing food samples for laboratory analysis through tasks such as cutting, weighing, chopping, portioning, labeling, and organizing samples. The ideal candidate is comfortable working in a fast-paced, kitchen-style prep environment and enjoys routine, detail-oriented work.
Role Responsibilities:
- Prepare food samples for testing by cutting, chopping, weighing, blending, and portioning items such as vegetables, meat, and packaged foods
- Label, organize, and store samples accurately following standard procedures
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of prep areas, equipment, tools, and workspaces
- Wash and sanitize utensils, containers, and preparation equipment
- Assist with sample receipt, sorting, and disposal
- Support inventory and restocking of prep supplies and consumables
- Follow all food safety, laboratory safety, and quality procedures
- Maintain basic logs and documentation related to sample preparation
- Support the lab team with additional operational duties as assigned

- Work areas remain clean, organized, and well-maintained throughout the shift
- Safety and food handling procedures are followed consistently

Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Experience in food prep, kitchen, production, warehouse, or similar hands-on environments is an asset
- Comfortable handling food products including raw meat and vegetables
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions consistently
- Able to work efficiently in a repetitive, physically active role
- Good organizational and time management skills
- Basic computer skills are an asset
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Ability to stand for extended periods and perform repetitive tasks
- Ability to lift up to 40 lbs
