Air Plus Hair Salon is seeking to hire a Master Stylist to join our team at our Metropolis at Metrotown location. Wage: $37.00 per hour or up to a maximum of 40% commission, whichever is higher, plus tips.
The Master Stylist is a senior technical and leadership role responsible for delivering advanced hairstyling services, while supporting the growth and development of our salon’s team and brand. The candidate must demonstrate exceptional technical expertise, mentorship capabilities and client experience. The Master Stylist acts as a role model for junior stylists and contributes to maintaining our salon’s reputation for quality and innovation.
The position is permanent, Full time (40 hours per week) with shifts scheduled between 10AM and 9PM. 4% pay in lieu of paid vacation days.
Duties:
· Conduct client consultations to assess hair condition and desired aesthetic goals and recommend suitable styles and products.
· Design and deliver customized hair solutions while maintaining high standards of service quality and client satisfaction.
· Provide advanced haircutting, colouring, styling, treatment, and finishing services using Japanese hairstyling techniques and standards, including:
o Precise layering and texturizing
o Colour formulation to achieve exact shade
o Highlighting, corrective colouring, and balayage colour
o Chemical treatments for scalp and hair restoration services
o Finishing techniques such as styling, blowouts, and any other requests made by the client.
· Perform corrective services and address complex styling requests requiring advanced technical expertise.
· Maintain knowledge of current international hair trends, techniques, and product innovations and tools.
· Lead training and mentorship initiatives for junior and developing stylists.
· Develop and deliver technical workshops, demonstrations, and hands-on training sessions to improve service consistency and technical standards.
· Monitor and evaluate stylist performance and provide constructive coaching and guidance.
· Support onboarding and technical integration of newly hired stylists.
· Promote a collaborative and positive salon culture focused on continuous improvement and professional development.
· Act as a senior stylist and team leader by setting service expectations and maintaining operational standards.
· Assist salon director in implementing service protocols, quality assurance measures, and salon procedures.
· Coordinate workflow to support efficient client service delivery or walk in appointments.
· Address client concerns and resolve service-related issues professionally.
· Provide input to salon director regarding product selection and retail offerings.
· Assist salon director in promoting services through social media content, campaigns, demonstrations, and community engagement initiatives.
· Participate in promotional events, industry showcases, and marketing activities to strengthen brand visibility.
· Build and maintain long-term client relationships and encourage client retention and referrals.
· Contribute ideas for seasonal promotions, service launches, and business growth initiatives.
· Represent the salon’s brand and aesthetic philosophy consistently across client and public interactions.
Requirements:
· Must have completed an apprenticeship or college program in hairstyling plus on the job training OR must have 7-8 years of professional experience if no formal hairstyling training or education.
· Extensive experience as a professional hairstylist with advanced cutting, colouring, and styling expertise.
· Demonstrated experience (at least 3-5 years) mentoring, training, or supervising hairstylists.
· Excellent interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills.
· Ability to work in a fast-paced and collaborative salon environment.
· Commitment to continuous learning and professional excellence.English language ability is required.
