The Nogojiwanong Friendship Centre (NFC) is a not-for-profit, culture and community-based organization mandated to serve the needs of urban Indigenous people in the City of Peterborough and surrounding area. The NFC is currently accepting applications for a full-time position as our Street Outreach Worker.

Objective
To provide outreach services to connect urban Indigenous individuals and families to housing supports and/or permanent housing.
Area of Responsibility:
The Street Outreach Worker will lead outreach efforts focused on supporting urban Indigenous individuals and families experiencing houselessness in the City of Peterborough. Through proactive, community-based engagement, this role will connect individuals to housing solutions aimed at reducing houselessness and prevention of new inflow of houselessness, while providing culturally appropriate, trauma-informed and holistic supports.
· Provide community outreach services; offering care kits, food, harm reduction kits, etc.
· Build trust and rapport with potential service users and prepare them for readiness to complete an intake
· Provide supports to enhance housing readiness
· Provide houselessness prevention and diversion services
· Conduct intake and initial assessments to determine the types of supports required;
· Develop a strengths-based action plan with services users and update progress as needed;
· Attend local shelters and community spaces to support service users
· Work in collaboration with other NFC programs and outside agencies to provide wrap-around services;
· Provide funder and NFC documentation as required (may include quarterly statistic and narrative reporting, annual proposals and reports, work plans, etc.);
· Understand the City’s Coordinated Access System and the Homeless Individuals and Families Information System (HIFIS) database and participate within it as required by funder
· Maintain complete, accurate and up-to-date service user files, program records and statistics ensuring the maintenance of a secure and confidential filing system;
Qualifications
· Other combinations of education and experience will be considered.
· 2 years post-secondary education in Indigenous studies, social work, or related field.
· Minimum 3 years of related work experience in housing and homelessness supports.
· Strong knowledge and awareness of Indigenous culture and history, with emphasis on family violence, the impacts of trauma, and community outreach.
· Knowledge of Residential Tenancies Act and the Landlord and Tenant Board.
· High proficiency in Microsoft 365 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
· Outstanding communication, analytical, problem-solving, and trouble-shooting skills
· Ability to work under pressure, prioritize work and meet tight deadlines.
· Satisfactory criminal reference check and vulnerable sector check.
Salary: $49,500.00 - $60,500.00 (with a 3-month probation)
Benefits: Health care spending account, 2 weeks paid vacation, 15 days of paid sick time, 5 paid wellness days, holiday closures.
Schedule: 8:30-4:30 Monday to Friday with evenings and weekends as needed
