Position: Lead Automotive Mechanic
Job Summary:
We’re hiring a highly experienced and responsible Lead Mechanic to join and help lead our service department. The ideal candidate must be a problem-solver who excels at diagnostics, communicates effectively with the team, and takes initiative to ensure every vehicle is repaired efficiently and safely. You’ll be responsible for inspecting, diagnosing, and repairing used vehicles for resale, as well as overseeing general shop flow and guiding junior mechanics.
Key Responsibilities:
- Accurately diagnose mechanical issues using both scan tools and manual methods
- Perform safety inspections and certify vehicles according to MTO standards
- Conduct test drives and post-repair inspections
- Save and document all replaced parts for manager review
- Guide and mentor junior mechanics and apprentices in proper repair methods
- Communicate clearly with the service advisor and manager about repair timelines and parts needed
- Complete all types of repairs, including but not limited to:
- Engine and transmission replacement
- Suspension work (control arms, bushings, links, ball joints, shocks, etc.)
- Brake systems (pads, rotors, calipers, fluid flushes)
- Electrical diagnostics and wiring
- Exhaust and emission systems
- Cooling system repairs (radiators, thermostats, water pumps)
- Use hoists and shop tools safely and properly
- Ensure a clean, organized, and efficient work environment
Qualifications:
- Minimum 5 years of hands-on mechanical experience
- Strong diagnostic skills with proven ability to resolve tough mechanical issues
- Must be able to work independently and take the lead on complicated jobs
- Familiar with common dealership-grade scan tools and diagnostic equipment
- Must understand and follow safety certification requirements (Ontario safety standards)
- Ability to prioritize and multitask in a high-volume shop
- Detail-oriented with strong accountability and follow-through
- Valid driver’s license (G-class) required
- 310S license mandatory
