Sushi Island is a Japanese restaurant located on Broad St. Bedford, Halifax NS, offering sushi, sashimi, tempura, ramen, teppanyaki, and other popular Japanese dishes. We are currently seeking Sushi Cooks, Kitchen Helpers, and Servers to join our team.
The starting wage is $16.50 per hour, plus tips. Applicants must have a valid SIN number. Previous restaurant experience is considered an asset but is not required.
Responsibilities
Servers
- Greet guests warmly and assist with seating arrangements
- Serve food and beverages by placing orders on the automated delivery system, and manually deliver items to guests when necessary to ensure timely service.
- Ensure proper food handling, sanitation, and safety procedures are followed at all times
- Maintain cleanliness of dining areas, tables, and service stations
- Manage time effectively to serve multiple tables efficiently during busy periods
- Provide excellent guest services by addressing questions, special requests, and resolving concerns professionally
Sushi Cooks
- Prepare ingredients such as cutting fish and meat, slicing vegetables, and prepare rice;
- Cook the dishes according to customer’s order and ensure high standards of quality and presentation for all dishes;
- Maintain inventory and records of food, supplies and equipment;
- Comply with health and safety regulations and maintain hygiene standards
- Collaborate and effective communicate with other kitchen staff;
Kitchen Cooks
- Prepare ingredients for Asian-style dishes, including cutting fish and meat, slicing vegetables, and preparing rice and other staples;
- Cook a variety of Asian dishes such as tempura, ramen, fried rice, fried noodles, and bento, ensuring high standards of quality, taste, and presentation;
- Maintain inventory and keep accurate records of food, supplies, and kitchen equipment;
- Ensure compliance with all health and safety regulations and maintain strict hygiene standards in the kitchen;
- Collaborate and communicate effectively with other kitchen staff to ensure efficient kitchen operations;
Skills
- Knowledge of food safety standards, sanitation practices, and proper food handling techniques
- Ability to manage time effectively in a fast-paced environment
- Previous restaurant or food service experience preferred, but not necessarily, we will provide training.
- Excellent communication skills for serving guests and collaborating with team members
