Position Summary:
As a key member of the production team, the Plant Supervisor is responsible for overseeing pre- and post-production operations to ensure safe, efficient, and quality-driven production processes. Reporting to the Controller, you will coordinate with maintenance and sanitation teams to meet safety, regulatory, and quality standards while driving continuous improvements in plant performance, productivity, and cost efficiency.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operational Excellence: Lead day-to-day plant operations to exceed production goals, optimize asset capacity, and maintain quality standards. Ensure on-time delivery and effective shipping of products.
- Production Planning: Monitor and adjust production schedules, ensuring available stock aligns with production plans for uninterrupted operations and optimal productivity.
- Supervision & Leadership: Lead and manage hourly employees to meet production targets, ensuring alignment with business objectives.
- Resource Optimization: Allocate resources efficiently to maximize production output while minimizing waste, downtime, and overtime costs.
- Strategic Implementation: Align plant operations with the company’s strategic initiatives and provide clear direction to the team to meet performance goals.
- Continuous Improvement: Monitor plant operations closely, identify areas for improvement, and trigger corrective actions to optimize processes, efficiency, and product quality.
- Team Leadership: Build trust with the team, recruit, develop, and manage plant staff. Address employee grievances and ensure smooth operations by administering collective bargaining agreements.
- Data Analysis: Collect and analyze data related to production processes to identify inefficiencies or areas of waste and implement strategies for improvement.
- Safety & Compliance: Ensure adherence to plant safety protocols, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), and other regulatory requirements.
- Process Optimization: Develop and implement systems to track productivity, performance metrics, and operational standards to ensure the best possible return on assets.
- Staff Development & Engagement: Foster a positive work culture, influence and motivate staff, and ensure alignment with overall plant goals and objectives.
- Best Practices: Stay current with production management trends, best practices, and new concepts to ensure the plant operates with the most up-to-date techniques and technologies.
- After-Hours Responsibility: Ensure the plant is secure at the end of the shift and that all safety and security protocols are followed.
Required Qualifications:
- Education: Post-secondary degree or diploma in food processing, business management, or a related field.
- Certification: OIMP Certified Food Handler- Supervisor Level
- Skills & Knowledge:
- Expertise in food safety and quality management systems (GMP, HACCP, WHMIS).
- Proficiency in MS Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
- Strong ability to manage personnel within collective bargaining agreements and human resources policies.
