The Opportunity
RVS invites applications for a full-time (35 hrs/wk) Privacy and Divisional Records Specialist position starting October 5, 2026. The location of this position will be at the Education Centre in Airdrie, Alberta.
The Privacy and Divisional Records Specialist is responsible for providing advice on interpretation and compliance with the legislative requirements of the Access to Information Act (ATIA) and Protection of Privacy Act (POPA) under the overall direction of the General Counsel. The Privacy and Divisional Records Specialist will provide recommendations, and guidance in interpreting legislation, ensuring the statutory appropriateness of decisions and compliance with legislation, and advises Rocky View Schools (RVS) on applying the privacy provisions to information and records management practices.
This position is also responsible for implementing and administering the framework of RVS records management program, including planning, organizing, monitoring and coordinating the maintenance, protection, retrieval and disposition of all information.
Responsibilities Include

Advises and provides recommendations to RVS on applying the privacy provisions to information management practices and policies.

Independently assess formal ATIA requests and manage the complexity, clarity, and scope of routine requests or disclosure under consideration.

Conduct privacy breach investigations, including reviewing documentation, interviewing complainants, respondents and employees, and report findings and recommendations and risk mitigations.

Develops procedures, guidelines and resources and presents training courses to assist personnel employees in complying with the ATIA and POPA.

Assesses requests to access information and provides responses that are legally defensible under the ATIA and related legislation.

Liaises with the Office of the Information Commissioner on responses to complaints and requests for reviews and preparation for Privacy Impact Assessments.

Acts as first level of support/contact for employees and leadership regarding queries on Privacy legislation and corresponding Administrative Procedures.

Maintains a high level of integrity and business professionalism in dealing with internal and external agencies.

Create and facilitate training and informational sessions to RVS employees and leadership on privacy and information management practices.

Defends and/or justifies RVS’ recommendations in reviews or investigations conducted by the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner as requested.
- Conducts Privacy Impact Assessments and maintains Personal Information Banks as required under Privacy Legislation.
Records Management

organizing, monitoring and coordinating the maintenance, protection, retrieval and disposition of all information and develop appropriate planning tools.

Determines standards, guidelines and practices regarding corporate records that will form part of RVS policy.

Leads records management initiatives and gives advice and guidance to department managers and staff.

Analyzes and provides recommendations on records management hardware and software requirements based on corporate, school and individual department needs.

Researches, develops and implements standards, policies and handling procedures for information creation, maintenance, storage, retention, retrieval and disposition of Divisional information.

Interprets and applies relevant statutory practices to records management practices, including under Privacy legislation and the Education Act.
- Degree in Business, Public Administration, Project Management, Information Management, or a related field
- Information Access and Protection of Privacy (IAPP) Certificate, Certified Information Privacy Professional Designation (CIPP-C), Privacy and Access Council of Canada (PACC) or equivalent
- 5 – or more years of experience in interpreting, researching, and applying ATIA, POPA, or similar legislation.
- Experience working in a school division or public sector employer is considered an asset.
