About the Opportunity
We’re looking for a sharp, ambitious candidate to join our rapidly growing, Ottawa-based team. This role is focused on royalty rate analysis, involving detailed review of case law and court dockets, synthesizing complex information, and solving analytical problems to derive defensible licensing rates.
You’ll work on core, client-facing projects, supporting royalty analyses across a range of technologies, while also contributing to the development of our internal tools and products. This is a highly analytical role that combines legal, financial, and technical reasoning in a fast-paced environment.
About the Role and Responsibilities
- Conduct in-depth market research on royalty rates, litigation and licensing trends, and comparable agreements across various industries
- Analyze litigation cases and court dockets to extract and derive royalty rates, requiring strong attention to detail and analytical precision
- Perform financial analysis of public and private companies, including modeling revenues, forecasts, and key operating metrics
- Build and manipulate datasets to derive key inputs (e.g., average selling prices (ASPs), units, and royalty bases) used in case analysis
- Support the development of royalty rate models and contribute to internal tools and analytical products
- Prepare structured reports summarizing the litigation landscape across various industries, including key cases, trends, and implications for royalty rate development
- Present findings and analysis to internal teams and to clients

- Receptive to feedback and able to quickly incorporate it to improve work quality and output
Requirements
- Graduated from an undergraduate program in finance, business, economics, or a law-related field at an accredited Canadian or American university
- Located in Ottawa (or able to work on-site) at the time of application
- Demonstrated MS Excel skills
- Research experience required
Assets
- Participation in an investment club, case competition team, TA role, or previous relevant work/internship experience
- Experience working with large datasets or financial models
- Exposure to legal research, case law analysis, or intellectual property concepts is an asset
- Familiarity with Excel-based modeling, data visualization, or analytical tools is a plus
- Demonstrated ability to present findings clearly and professionally
