About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Senior Steel Detailer to join our growing team. The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing accurate and detailed structural and miscellaneous steel shop drawings, erection drawings, and material take-offs for commercial, industrial, and institutional projects. This role requires strong technical expertise, leadership capabilities, and the ability to collaborate effectively with engineers, fabricators, project managers, and customers.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare structural and miscellaneous steel shop drawings, erection drawings, and assembly drawings using TEKLA STRUCTURE.
- Review structural and architectural contract documents to ensure project requirements are accurately reflected in detailing deliverables.
- Coordinate closely with Drafting Manager, shop, and field personnel to resolve design and constructability issues.
- Lead project detailing efforts from project award through fabrication and erection.
- Review and check drawings produced by junior detailers for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with project specifications.
- Draft Requests for Information (RFIs), revisions, and drawing approvals.
- Ensure detailing practices comply with applicable building codes, industry standards, and company quality requirements.
- Support fabrication and erection teams by providing timely technical assistance and drawing revisions as needed.
- Mentor and train junior steel detailers to promote professional growth and improve team performance.
Qualifications Required:
- Minimum 7–10 years of structural steel detailing experience.
- Advanced proficiency with Tekla Structures (preferred).
- Strong understanding of structural steel fabrication and erection processes.
- Ability to read and interpret structural and architectural drawings, specifications, and engineering calculations.
- Working knowledge of applicable industry standards including CISC, CSA standards, and project specifications.
- Experience coordinating complex steel projects and managing multiple deadlines simultaneously.
- Excellent communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
Preferred:
- Diploma or degree in Drafting Technology, Civil Engineering Technology, Structural Engineering, or a related field.
- Experience with BIM coordination and 3D modeling.
- Experience working in detailing teams or taking lead on the project.
- Familiarity with fabrication shop operations and field erection practices.

Pay: $75,000.00-$95,000.00 per year
