Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Agronomist to join our team and continue its growth for the future. This position offers an opportunity to contribute to innovative solutions that enhance crop productivity and sustainability. The Agronomist will be responsible for analyzing data, and recommending products and practices to maximize crop health and yields.
Responsibilities
In this role, you will:
- Support commercial crop production through regular scouting and hands-on field work, monitoring crops for insect and diseases and soil moisture to assist with scheduling irrigation.
- Contribute to quality control on farm operations, i.e. seed handling and cutting, planter spacing accuracy, and irrigation system uniformity, etc.
- Perform test digs to estimate yield and monitor quality.
- Evaluate plant growth and maturity, including sugar testing in the field and in storage.
- Provide daily supervision of Field Tech(s) and/or seasonal employees.
- Assist with fertilizer/chemical management and applications.
- Perform bruise-free sampling and handling of potatoes.
- Ongoing familiarization with crop production methods and practices.
- Assist with developing and executing pest management strategies.
- Assist/facilitate with the development and execution of crop management strategies.
- Support research and development efforts.
- Collect data for crop trials.
- Assist with entering and maintaining information pertaining to chemical/fertilizer applications.
Physical Demands
This position works closely with the land and spends a large amount of time in the field. This includes walking and working outdoors in the elements, driving across the farm/various fields and to the plant facility, and regularly lifting objects weighing up to 50 lbs.
Required Qualifications
- A Bachelor's degree in Agronomy or related field
- Proven skills in data collection, analysis, and interpretation
- Five years' experience working with potatoes
- A strong understanding of crop production and farm operation flow
- A valid class 5 license
Desired Qualifications
- Proficiency with computer software: MS office and Power BI
- Excellent organizational skills
- Appreciation for accurate sampling and reporting
- Knowledge of crop protectants and fertilizer
