We are looking for a Personal Lines Underwriter to join our team. We are open to candidates with varying levels of personal lines underwriting experience. The successful candidate’s title, authority level, and responsibilities will be determined based on experience, underwriting judgment, and demonstrated ability.
This role is well suited to someone with personal lines underwriting experience who can apply sound judgment, communicate clearly, and work constructively with brokers and internal team members. Overview:
Reporting to the Underwriting Manager, the Personal Lines Underwriter will review, assess, and manage personal lines risks in accordance with company guidelines, underwriting standards, and service expectations. The role includes evaluating new business, renewals, endorsements, and related underwriting inquiries while supporting strong broker relationships and responsible portfolio performance.
Requirements:
Minimum 2 years of personal lines underwriting experience, with level determined based on experience, underwriting judgment, and demonstrated ability
Experience in other underwriting lines is considered an asset (farm and commercial).
Strong understanding of personal lines property and casualty insurance products, risk assessment, and underwriting principles.
Ability to apply judgment within established guidelines and authority levels.
Strong attention to detail and ability to manage work accurately and efficiently.
Clear written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to work collaboratively with brokers, colleagues, and leadership.
Comfort using insurance systems, Microsoft Office, and related business tools.
CIP, CRM, another applicable designation, or willingness to progress toward a designation is considered an asset.
Key Responsibilities:
Review and underwrite personal lines applications, renewals, endorsements, and related requests.
Assess risk information and apply company underwriting guidelines, pricing approach, and authority limits.
Communicate underwriting decisions clearly and professionally to brokers and internal staff.
Work with brokers to obtain required information and support practical, timely underwriting decisions.
Identify risks that require referral, additional review, or escalation.
Maintain accurate documentation of underwriting decisions, risk information, and file activity.
Support portfolio quality by identifying trends, exceptions, and areas requiring follow-up.
Contribute to a consistent underwriting approach across the team.
Participate in process improvements, system use, and other operational initiatives as required.
Perform other duties and projects as assigned by management.
