What will be your role?
Reporting to the VP, PMO & Government Programs, the Director, Programs & East Coast will be in charge of the Halifax Business Unit and its satellite office in St. Johns Newfoundland by managing assets, the human, financial and operational resources necessary to meet contractual and company related obligations and ensure unit profitability. This role requires to build and develop the local presence of Bronswerk in the Maritimes in addition of developing the local team; the RCD program team (PM, Installation team and Production engineering), and the In-Service Support teams including Repair and Overhaul and Spare parts to ensure adequate resources and support are available for the Halifax region programs while maintaining a good flow of information between Bronswerk, and clients and visibility within the local naval environment.
You will also be working with the different Bronswerk Marine functions and Clients’ team to make decisions in the best interest of the overall program and our regional operations. Actively participates in the execution of the project, and acts as a mentor and reference for the PM and the Installation Manager and ensures flow downs are happening to the different team members including Production Engineers, installation leads and installers.
The roles require active interaction with Clients and their different teams to resolve emerging issues, align installation/production schedules, develop workflows, and deliver quality system solutions within the timelines and budget.
You will also be responsible to grow the In-Service Support (ISS), Repair & Overall, Spare parts for the Canadian Navy and the Canadian Coast Guard in addition of local opportunities in representing the Company in the maritime and ensuring its visibility.
Project Management and Direction:
- Act as a Bronswerk representative in the shipyard, ensure that client is informed of installation progress, issues, recommendations, etc.; assists in program meetings with shipyard.
- Align Programs progress and implementation with Bronswerk management guidelines
- Ensure goals, timelines, resources and budget are aligned.
- Oversee project plan/schedule.
- Manage and coordinate the final delivery and acceptance of the different programs to the customer including but not limited to systems, duct installation, controls and equipment.
- Ensure appropriate HVAC designs for the different spaces onboard ships are developed/adapted and documented to the build process.
- Manage and coordinate the duct manufacturing and duct related material within the project budget.
- Lead and support the project team including, project manager, installation managers and production engineers. Provide assistance to overcome technical, schedule, fit, mounting, supply chain and client issues.
- Provide alternative options and facilitates disagreements between Installation Managers and Production Engineer and ISI when a middle ground needs to be found.
- Ensure all changes to drawings to reflect as-built evolution of the installations are happening in a timely manner.
- Ensure installation issues are resolved in a timely manner and ensure that changes and requirements are understood, documented, communicated, costed and applied.
- Ensure the quality of deliverables and installations.
- Monitor progress and deliverables against plans and mitigate issues when they arise
- Monitor time & technical activities of the project and ensure that deliverables meet contract requirements.
- Coordinate supplier’s deliverables with project timelines and ensure quality.
- Manage all contract administration and stays on top of projects budget (invoicing and costs).
- Accountable for Canadian Ships start-ups and set to work and support.
- Ensure Bronswerk Project Life Cycle (PLC) is implemented through the life of the project.
- Ensure Monthly reports are released on time. Analyze outcome and implement strategies to overcome challenges.
Customer Management:
- Act as a senior point of contact with the customers representing management.
- Maintain communications with customers on project progress, issues and risks at all levels of the organization.
- Manage scope and change requests in a proactive manner.
- Monitor customer satisfaction and address concerns.
Contract Management:
- Monitor contract delivery (i.e., specifications, costs and customer satisfaction)
- Development and negotiation of contractual agreements and/or change requests
Other:
- Responsible for proposal development.
- Together with the CFO develop the Annual Business Unit Budget.
Which candidate profile are we looking for?
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or certified system maintainer/operator.
- 10–15 years of progressive leadership experience in project management.
- Experience in HVAC system engineering design or experience operating/maintaining HVAC systems.
- Experience in Ship Installations/Refurbishment; good working knowledge of PM software.
- Good knowledge of project finance and cost control.
- PMP certification (an asset).
- Excellent communication skills, both oral and written with strong relational skills.
- Excellent organization skills and capacity to juggle multiple tasks and resources.
- Excellent business acumen for long term development is highly desirable.
