During our peak harvesting season, the mechanic helper (commonly referred to as the "Greaser" in our company) prepares the harvesting equipment for the day. The tractors, harrows, rotaries, and vacuums need to be cleaned of peat moss and peat dust, and then greased for proper attachment. There will also be opportunities to help with other mechanical projects when main duties are completed. As a mechanic helper, you will primarily be working with tractors, harvesting equipment, loaders, excavators, ditchers, and forklifts. Knowledge of welding would also be considered an asset.
Currently, the position is considered seasonal, running until late fall. However, there is a strong possibility the position will transition into a full-time permanent role based on the company's current needs. We are also willing to hire recent grads as our Foreman is a fully licensed Heavy Equipment Mechanic who can sign off on required paperwork to help with completing licensing.
Wages start at $20.51/hr plus 6% vacation. Shift is Monday - Friday 6am - 4 or 5pm (as well as some Saturdays during peak harvesting period as needed). Guaranteed 45-50 hours per week, overtime paid after 44 hours.
