Reporting to the Supervisor, Services, the Children Services Worker is responsible for ensuring the provision of service to children/youth in the care of the Society. The incumbent is responsible to ensure all legislative, Ministry and Society policies and regulations, respective to the child/youth are met.
The incumbent will formulate case plans and develop strategies of intervention and collaboration with the caregivers and other Society staff. This position collaborates with other Society staff, a variety of foster care providers and community service agencies to ensure that children/youth’s needs are met.
Required Qualifications, Knowledge, Education and Skills:
- Minimum of a Bachelor of Social Work degree, however consideration may be given to applicants who possess a Bachelor degree in a related field with 2 years’ experience in a Human Services field direct service role. Master of Social Work degree would be considered an asset.
- Knowledge of the Child, Youth and Family Services Act and Ministry of Children and Youth Services, as well as clinical knowledge of social work theories, principles and practices.
- Demonstrated ability to conduct assessments from a child development perspective and the ability to work directly with children in managing and modifying behaviour.
- Demonstrated ability to recognize and assess risk to children and families.
- Effective interviewing and counselling skills, specifically with children/youth and families.
- Proven interpersonal skill and the ability to establish and maintain collaborative working relationships with children, youth, families and staff, foster, adoptive and kin families, and community collaterals.
- Demonstrated written communication skills to meet Society recording responsibilities timeframes and other administrative requirements, excellent computer and keyboarding skills.
- Proven organizational skills to set and meet priorities and established Ministry and Society requirements and to manage an assigned caseload.
- Proven ability to work independently as well as to function as a cooperative team member.
- Demonstrated ability to work from a solutions-focused, strengths-based perspective.
- Demonstrated understanding of child development, family systems, the effects of trauma on the child and a systems approach to working with families and professionals working with the families would be an asset.
- Highly developed skills in goal directed casework.
- Demonstrated comfort in the use of proper authority.
- Proof of valid G-class driver’s license and $1,000,000 automobile liability insurance.
- Satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Check.
