About the Role
SharkzCoins is Canada's leading manufacturer of challenge coins, police badges, and uniform insignia for clients that include the Canadian Armed Forces, RCMP, law enforcement and public safety agencies across the country. We are looking for a Technical Design Specialist to join our graphics team in Esquimalt.
This is a hands-on technical role. You will produce detailed drawings for uniform badges, pins, belt buckles, medals, and related metal items, as well as challenge coins. You will work directly from client briefs, translate requirements into precise technical artwork, and communicate clearly with clients, colleagues, and overseas production partners throughout the process.
What You Will Do
· Produce professional technical drawings and production-ready artwork in Adobe Illustrator
· Visualise and communicate how a design will translate into a physical metal product before fabrication begins
· Work with physical reference samples and use measuring instruments including vernier calipers
· Apply working knowledge of fabrication materials such as zinc, brass, and appropriate joining methods
· Liaise with clients and factory contacts, translating technical details into plain language and vice versa
· Collaborate with the broader design team throughout the art approval process
What We Are Looking For
· Professional-level proficiency in Adobe Illustrator; Photoshop is an asset
· Working knowledge of metal fabrication materials and processes relevant to cast and die-struck products
· Comfort with precision measurement tools
· Background and/training in Industrial Design, graphic design, engineering graphics, or a related field is preferred
· Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain technical matters clearly to non-technical clients
· A mature, grounded approach to the work -- someone who asks good questions, thinks critically, and takes pride in getting the details right
· Proficiency in standard MS Office tools
We are open to candidates with limited direct experience if the right combination of technical aptitude, communication ability, and professional attitude is there. The right person will grow into this role.
What We Offer
· Starting rate of $27.00/hr with growth tied to performance
· Group health benefits package
· Standard vacation and sick leave
· A stable, close-knit team working on meaningful products for Canadian institutions
