Sanguen Health Centre exists to improve individual and community well-being by providing health and social care for people who face barriers to accessing traditional supports. This includes people living with HCV, people who use drugs, those experiencing homelessness and equity deserving communities.

About WINS (Working to Improve Neighbourhood Safety)
The WINS program works to proactively find and dispose of harm reduction litter found in the community in partnership with Region of Waterloo Public Health, Sanguen Health Centre and the cities of Cambridge, Kitchener and Waterloo.
WINS is a Peer based needle recovery program that aims to reduce the number of improperly disposed harm reduction items in the community. WINS aims to provide employment opportunities to folks with barriers to traditional employment while seamlessly educating our community on safe disposal options and increasing community engagement with regards to harm reduction and substance use.
Summary of the Role
The ideal candidate is committed to an anti-oppressive and non-judgmental approach to community outreach and is comfortable working with marginalized populations and people who take drugs. This position requires a great deal of flexibility and creativity and is well-suited to a candidate who can thrive within an evolving, non-structured work environment.
Keyholder will be responsible for supervising and assigning routes to peers, responsible for collecting data observed on routes, shopping and distributing supplies to Kitchener, Waterloo and Cambridge.
Accountabilities:
Accountabilities of the Keyholder include, but are not limited to:
- In conjunction with the Regional WINS Coordinator,schedule and supervise peer outreach workers to assist with community activities
- Be present to open WINS locations and greet peer outreach workers
- Data input to maintain accurate statistics and activity reports
- Purchase supplies for each site and distributes to various locations
- Participate on committees and working groups as needed, and requested by the Regional WINS Coordinator
- Assist with harm reduction clean up as needed
- Providing community members information to services such as health care, shelter, food, etc.
Qualifications
- Strong knowledge of applied harm reduction concepts and practices, particularly as relevant to people who use drugs
- Ability to represent Sanguen’s values while maintaining positive community relationships
- Committed to maintaining excellent personal and professional boundaries while providing accepting, non-judgemental service and support
- Experience with crisis de-esclation and conflict resolution
- Knowledge of the social determinants of Health and their impact on people who use drugs
- Knowledge of relevant and local, social, health, and treatment services available to people who use drugs
- Excellent computer skills, including Google Apps, Excel, Word, Powerpoint, email
- Valid driver’s license, access to own vehicle and insurance. This will be required to work various shifts in the cities, of Cambridge, Kitchener and Waterloo
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
Hours and Location of Work
This role will require 10 - 15 hours per week. Locations will include Kitchener, Waterloo and Cambridge.
The successful candidate must be able to travel to and between these locations by personal vehicle. Mileage will be reimbursed for travel between work locations within a shift.
Compensation
This is an hourly position with a wage ranging from $25 - $27 per hour.
