Founding Literacy Tutor The Learning Lighthouse Tutoring (operated by The Learning Lighthouse Inc.) Part-time, employee position · A neighbourhood school in Waterloo · Evenings · $28/hour
About us The Learning Lighthouse Tutoring is a structured literacy program for children in Senior Kindergarten through Grade 3. We deliver small-group instruction (two to three students), grounded in the Science of Reading, with measurable progress reporting that answers the question parents care about most: how will I know it's working? We launch September 2026 from a permitted classroom in a neighbourhood school in Waterloo.
The role We're hiring our founding tutor; the first instructional hire in the business. You'll deliver weekly evening literacy sessions from day one and help shape how we teach, document progress, and grow. This is a genuine ground-floor opportunity. As the program expands, there will be room for the right person to take on greater responsibility, including a possible coordinator role, training, supporting and supervising future tutors and on-site logistics.
What you'll do Deliver structured small-group literacy sessions (SK–Grade 3) following our curriculum and methodology. Prepare for sessions using provided lesson materials and assessment tools. Document student progress and contribute to the six-week progress assessments families receive. Build warm, professional relationships with students and parents at drop-off and pick-up.
Who you are A certified Ontario teacher (preferred), or a first- or second-year Bachelor of Education student. Comparable experience teaching young children to read will also be considered. You understand or are eager to learn structured literacy / phonics-based instruction. You're reliable, organized, and warm with young children. You can commit to a consistent weekly evening schedule and want to grow with a new business rather than clock hours at an established chain.
Details Part-time employee (not a contractor), $28/hour. Phase 1 commitment is roughly 2 to 5 hours per week — one or two evenings of session delivery plus paid preparation time. This will scale up as the program adds evenings. Evening availability required. A clear Vulnerable Sector Check is required before working with students.
Pay: $28.00 per hour
