Our client is looking for a detail-oriented Senior Accountant to join their growing finance team. This is a hands-on, full-cycle accounting role offering exposure to financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, payroll, tax compliance, and process improvement initiatives.
The successful candidate will act as a key finance partner, working closely with internal stakeholders, external agencies, and leadership to ensure accurate financial reporting, compliance, and operational efficiency. This position also offers the opportunity to contribute to finance transformation projects involving automation, business intelligence tools, and emerging technologies.
Key Responsibilities
Accounts Receivable & Accounts Payable
Manage full-cycle accounts receivable, including invoicing, collections, and customer account maintenance.
Support contract and purchase order reconciliations.
Prepare and maintain supporting documentation in accordance with accounting standards.
Oversee full-cycle accounts payable processing and vendor payments.
Monitor AR and AP aging reports and maintain timely follow-up on outstanding balances.
Financial Reporting & Analysis
Prepare accurate and timely monthly and quarterly financial reports.
Assist with month-end and quarter-end close processes.
Analyze financial results, investigate variances, and provide insights to management.
Develop and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to support business objectives.
Budgeting & Forecasting
Assist in the preparation of annual budgets and departmental forecasts.
Prepare cash flow projections and ongoing financial forecasts.
Support leadership with financial planning and decision-making.
Payroll & Compliance
Process payroll accurately and within established timelines.
Ensure compliance with Canadian payroll regulations and indirect tax requirements (GST/QST).
Liaise with government agencies and regulatory bodies regarding payroll, tax, and related compliance matters.
Audit & Internal Controls
Maintain account reconciliations and audit-ready supporting documentation.
Support internal and external audit processes.
Assist in strengthening internal controls and improving financial procedures.
Process Improvement & Systems
Identify and implement opportunities to improve accounting processes and reporting efficiency.
Support finance system enhancements and automation initiatives.
Leverage reporting and analytics tools to improve decision-making and business insights.
Contribute to the adoption of technology-driven solutions across the finance function.
Additional Responsibilities
Manage employee expense reimbursements.
Administer and reconcile corporate credit card programs.
Provide ad hoc accounting support and analysis as required.
Qualifications
3+ years of progressive accounting experience in a full-cycle accounting environment.
Strong understanding of accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and financial reporting.
Experience with month-end and quarter-end close processes.
Knowledge of Canadian payroll regulations, GST/QST, and related compliance requirements.
Experience with ERP systems and reporting tools; exposure to automation or business intelligence platforms is considered an asset.
Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
CPA designation or progress toward designation is considered an asset.
