ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY
The Finance Coordinator provides mid-level accounting and administrative support within the Finance Department. This role focuses on financial systems administration, accounting preparation, tax and local revenue administration, and technical support to the Director of Finance and Finance Manager. The Finance Coordinator prepares financial information, maintains accurate records, administers assigned tax functions, and ensures compliance with internal policies and relevant legislation.
The position is responsible for maintaining accurate financial and funding records, supporting compliance with applicable legislation and agreements, and ensuring deadlines and reporting requirements are tracked and met. The Finance Coordinator exercises sound judgment, works independently within established processes, and proactively identifies and resolves discrepancies or issues as they arise.
Working closely with the Director of Finance, Finance Manager, the finance team, and internal departments, the Finance Coordinator supports cross-departmental coordination of financial documentation and information. This role requires strong organization, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment while maintaining accuracy and confidentiality. WHAT YOU BRING
Knowledge & Experience
- Diploma in accounting, finance, or a related field.
- 3-5 years experience in a mid/senior-level finance position.
- Experience in tax administration, and GST preparation is an asset.
- Experience and best practices in accounting systems, budgets, and internal controls.
- Strong understanding of GAAP, journal entries, reconciliations, and financial reporting.
- Knowledge of financial legislation, funding agreements, and compliance requirements.
Skills & Abilities
- Strong proficiency in Sage® software and spreadsheet programs/applications.
- Excellent attention to detail, organizational and time management skills.
- Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills, with diplomacy in high-pressure situations and a calm, steady demeanor.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including good documentation skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to investigate discrepancies.
- Strong computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office suite.
Other Requirements
- Compliance with BC Immunization program and TB Screening.
- Satisfactory completion of a police information check.
- Ability to provide own transportation to and from work.
- Valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License and Drivers Abstract.
Optional/Assets
- Experience in tax administration, and GST preparation.
- Knowledge of First Nation’s governance, and history and context.
- Completion of AFOA CAPA or CAFM program.
- Experience in a similar organization and/or a similar role.
- Google™ drive, calendar, forms and other Google™ products
WORK SETTING
This work takes place Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., excluding holidays. This work is primarily office-based with occasional extended hours required during peak periods (e.g., audit, budget season). Non-essential time off is unavailable during audit season. Overtime only as approved.
