Organization Overview
Located in the Tricity area, Pioneer Community Living Association (PCLA) provides residential and psychosocial rehabilitation programs for adult individuals with moderate to severe mental illnesses. PCLA supports over 350 individuals annually. Many Residents face persistent barriers to employment including stigma, disrupted education, prolonged unemployment and the ongoing impacts of mental illness.
Job Overview: Employment Resource Advisor
The Inclusive Futures Program is a structured, recovery-oriented employment initiative developed by PCLA to support Residents in building pathways to employment, financial stability and community integration. This program aims to integrate employment readiness with mental health support. We are looking for an Employment Resource Advisor to facilitate this program and its deliverables.
This is a 1 year contract that will work out of many of our sites while working with our Residents.
The program will operate on a 12 month cycle and is designed to move participants through a gradual, supported progression towards employment. It is designed to engage up to 100 Residents annually through workshops, coaching and pre-employment supports with a core cohort of 60 Residents completing with the program.
We will also require these specific outcomes for the contract:
1. Early Stage: Assessment and Goal Setting: Participants begin with career and
skills assessments, followed by one-on-one planning to identify strengths,
barriers, and employment goals. Each participant develops an individualized
pathway that reflects their capacity and interests.
2. Core Stage: Skills Development and Coaching: Participants engage in ongoing
workshops and individualized coaching focused on building practical,
transferable skills. This includes financial literacy, digital skills, communication,
and job readiness, alongside resume development, interview preparation, and
job search support. The program is intentionally flexible, allowing participants to
move at a pace that aligns with their mental health and circumstances.
3. Later Stage: Placement and Transition: Participants are supported in securing
employment, volunteer placements, or training opportunities aligned with their
goals. This phase includes continued coaching and transition support to promote
retention and stability.
4. Ongoing: Integrated Wraparound Support: Throughout the program, participants
have access to wraparound supports that are central to the program’s success.
This includes ongoing involvement from PCLA’s mental health nurses and clinical
staff, who provide regular check-ins, support emotional regulation, and help
participants navigate challenges that may impact their ability to engage in
employment.
Qualifications:
- Completion of a post‑secondary certificate or diploma in employment services, career development or an equivalent combination of education, training, and demonstrated experience supporting job seekers in a community‑based environment.
- 1-3 years of experience providing career counselling services and specific experience working with individuals who have moderate to severe mental health illness acquire job readiness skills.
- Knowledge of the local labour market, community resources and government programs
- Knowledge of job search techniques, career development, and issues relating to unemployment
- Demonstrated ability to work confidentially and professionally;
- Clear criminal record check;
- Ability to work at our multiple sites in Burnaby, New Westminster and Coquitlam Monday to Friday
