Senior Driving Instructor (Class 5/7) — Job Summary
A Senior Driving Instructor (Class 5/7) is responsible for teaching safe driving skills to new drivers, supervising and mentoring driving instructors, and ensuring driver training programs meet Alberta Transportation standards. The role includes in-car instruction, student evaluations, curriculum guidance, compliance monitoring, and supporting the overall quality and reputation of the driving school. Senior instructors may also assist with instructor training and operational management.
Typical Responsibilities
- Teach Class 5 and/or Class 7 students defensive driving skills
- Conduct in-vehicle driving lessons and evaluations
- Ensure compliance with Alberta Transportation regulations
- Mentor and supervise junior driving instructors
- Maintain student records and training documentation
- Support curriculum development and instructional standards
- Monitor instructor performance and training quality
- Provide feedback to students to improve driving skills and road safety
- Assist with school operations, scheduling, and instructor support
- Promote professionalism, safety, and customer service standards
Requirements
- Valid Alberta Senior Driving Instructor Licence (Class 5 and/or 7)
- Minimum 2 years of driving instructor experience
- Clean driver’s abstract and criminal record check
- Strong communication and leadership skills
- Knowledge of Alberta traffic laws and driver training regulations
- Professional, patient, and safety-focused attitude

Salary Range in Alberta
