The Role
The Retail Sales – E-Commerce supports the ReStore’s online sales operations by assisting with product intake, listing, photography, pricing, organization, and order fulfillment. Working closely with the E-Commerce Supervisor (or Store Management), this role ensures accurate, well-presented online listings, timely processing of customer orders, and smooth coordination between the online store and the physical salesfloor.
The Retail Sales – E-Commerce plays a key part in driving online sales, maintaining organized inventory, and delivering a positive customer experience through high-quality listings and reliable order processing.
Key Responsibilities
Online Listings & Product Preparation
- Assist with photographing and measuring items for online listings, ensuring clear, accurate, and appealing product presentation.
- Write basic product descriptions, including condition notes and key features.
- Help price items according to established guidelines and online market value.
- Ensure all listings include correct SKU numbers, categories, tags, and other required details.
- Maintain consistency with branding and ReStore listing standards.
Inventory Organization
- Organize and label E-Commerce inventory according to storage guidelines.
- Maintain an efficient and safe workspace for online product storage.
- Track inventory movement and communicate discrepancies or issues with accuracy.
- Coordinate with receiving/backroom teams to identify items suitable for online sale.
Order Fulfillment & Customer Support
- Pick, pack, and prepare online orders for pickup or shipping following correct procedures.
- Communicate with customers regarding pickup scheduling or product questions, as directed.
- Ensure timely and accurate fulfillment of all orders.
- Assist with processing cancellations, returns, or special requests under supervisor direction.
Teamwork & Communication
- Work collaboratively with ReStore Supervisors and the Store Manager to prioritize daily and weekly tasks.
- Communicate listing needs, product concerns, or challenges promptly.
- Coordinate product flow from the backroom to the E-Commerce storage area or photography station.
- Support cross-department teamwork, especially during high-volume donation periods.
Safety & Compliance
- Follow all safety procedures when handling inventory, photography equipment, and storage systems.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and hazard-free workspace.
- Report safety issues, inventory hazards, or equipment concerns to supervisors immediately.
Knowledge and Skills Required
- Must be between 15 and 30 years of age.
- Must be a Canadian citizen.
- Cannot hold more than one Canada Summer Jobs position per year.
- 0–1 years of experience in retail, E-Commerce, photography, or related environment (training provided).
- Strong attention to detail, especially in product descriptions and visual presentation.
- Basic photography skills (smartphone or camera) and comfort learning new tools or software.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently.
- Ability to lift and move items up to 40 lbs.
- Solid communication skills and a customer-centered mindset.
- Comfort using computers, tablets, or online platforms.
- Commitment to Habitat Greater Ottawa’s mission and values.
- Experience with E-Commerce platforms (Shopify, WooCommerce, eBay, etc.) considered an asset but not required.
Working Conditions
- The successful candidate is expected to work/live in Ottawa and/or the surrounding area.
- Full-time position, 35 hours per week for 8 weeks, with evenings and weekends required.
- Work is split between warehouse/backroom areas and the salesfloor, with regular standing, lifting, photography work, and computer-based tasks.
- Requires attention to detail, safe handling of merchandise, and consistent coordination with store teams
The hourly wage for this role is $17.60 per hour.
