Position Overview
We are hiring experienced Pipe Layers for projects located in Kelowna and surrounding areas. This role involves installing and repairing underground piping systems for various utilities, ensuring they meet all specifications and standards.
Responsibilities:
- Install and repair underground pipes for storm sewers, sanitary sewers, drains, and water mains.
- Experience working in shored trenches installing various pipe types.
- Install various types of underground utilities (Ductile Iron, PVC, Concrete, HDPE, Hydro/Tel), including the installation of manholes, catch basins, and other infrastructure to local specifications.
- Ensure proper backfill and compaction around pipes to maintain correct positioning and long-term support.
- Ensure utilities are installed at the correct grade and elevations.
- Support the safe assembly and use of trench shoring systems.
- Read and interpret blueprints, maps, and specifications to determine pipe layout and installation procedures.
- Grade and level trenches to ensure proper pipe alignment and drainage.
- Inspect installed pipes to ensure they meet standards and specifications.
- Work safely on a construction site, following all company and regulatory safety policies, including participation in safety meetings.
- Train other employees and ensure quality work results.
- Communicate effectively and work well as part of a team.
Skills & Qualifications:
- Minimum 3–5 years of experience as a Pipe Layer.
- Valid driver's license and personal transportation.
- Experience in civil utilities including storm, sanitary sewer, water, and hydro.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and understand elevations and grading.
- Experience using pipe and rotary lasers.
- Certifications such as first aid, confined space, utility locating, and rigging are an asset.
- Thorough understanding of construction procedures and the ability to execute work safely and efficiently.
- Ability to identify and communicate safety hazards in a civil construction environment.
- Ability to work collaboratively as a team member and equally motivated working independently.
- Self-motivated and dependable, with a demonstrated ability to adapt to changing priorities.
- Strong physical endurance to handle labor-intensive tasks in varying weather conditions.
Compensation:
- Salary: $33.00 - $40.00 per hour, based on experience.
