Position Overview
This is an opportunity for an energetic and motivated CNC Set Up Operator to work with a world class organization. This CNC Set Up Operator will be responsible for setting up and operating a variety of 3, 4 or 5 axis CNC machining centers, with primary focus being a New Gleason Gear Hobbing Machine and or Gear Grinding.
Primary Responsibilities
- Set up and operate a variety of CNC equipment to produce quality products
- Interpret complex engineering drawings, gear charts, and process sheets to determine optimal machining parameters.
- First off audits, in-process inspection checks
- Utilize Conversational programming software to produce a variety of Gear profiles on a New Gleason Gear Hobber 1200/1600 and Gear Grinding G1200
- Select and install proper tooling, hobs, and fixtures for each job.
- Loading and unloading of parts from machines/fixtures
- Participation in improvement activities related to the machine and/or machining process
- Performing routine inspections of product using a variety of inspection tooling/gauges (i.e. micrometer, vernier, calipers, height gauge, shadow graph, etc)
- Manage tools, fixtures, part programs, and gauges at the machine
- Additional duties as required.
Education:
- Post-secondary education related to machining.
Experience:
- 3, 4 or 5 axis set up experience on CNC machining equipment;
- Part prove-out experience/communicating with programming
- Gear Hobbing, Milling and/or Gear Grinding experience
- Good understanding and experience with work offsets
- Blueprint reading capabilities; including knowledge of GD & T principles, understanding of CMM / GMM reports, and experience using a wide variety of precision measuring instruments (i.e. verniers, micrometers, calipers, indicators, etc)
- Experience working in a Lean environment
Skills:
- CNC machining fundamentals
- Understanding of Gear Nomenclature ie: Gear Geometry , pitch, pressure angles, and related terminology
- Proven experience operating and setting up CNC gear hobbing and or grinding and milling machines.
- Good reading and math skills required; capable of completing assigned tasks from written/verbal instruction
- Good verbal, written communication skills, positive attitude, ability to demonstrate effort to troubleshoot and make improvements to job-related processes
- Ability work in a dynamic, fast paced, changing environment with minimal supervision
- Good attention to detail and results oriented
- Strong sense of teamwork within group and across organization
