TRU Off Grid is seeking an experienced 309A Journeyman Electrician to lead residential and light commercial electrical work, with a strong focus on solar PV, battery storage, backup power, service upgrades, and more
We are a growing Milton-based energy company specializing in solar and energy storage systems across Ontario. Due to continued growth, we are expanding our electrical operations and are looking for a strong field lead who can run jobs independently while working under the support and oversight of a remote Master Electrician.
This role is ideal for an experienced journeyman who is confident in the field, can manage installations from start to finish, communicate professionally with customers and inspectors, and help build a strong electrical team as the company grows.
About the Role
The successful candidate will be the on-site electrical lead for residential and light commercial projects. You will be responsible for running jobs efficiently, managing the installation process, supporting apprentices/helpers, and ensuring work is completed safely and to a high standard.
A remote Master Electrician will provide oversight, permitting support, and compliance direction as required. The ideal candidate should still be capable of taking ownership in the field and making practical, code-compliant decisions on site.
Responsibilities
- Lead residential and light commercial electrical installations
- Run solar PV, battery storage, backup power, service upgrade, panel, and EV charger projects
- Work from drawings, layouts, single-line diagrams, and project scopes
- Coordinate daily site work with project managers, apprentices, helpers, customers, and inspectors
- Ensure installations are clean, professional, safe, and code-compliant
- Support ESA inspection readiness and on-site corrections if required
- Troubleshoot electrical issues and make practical field decisions
- Mentor apprentices and junior installers as the team grows
- Communicate material needs, project updates, and site conditions clearly to the office
- Support general electrical service work when required
Requirements
- Valid Ontario 309A Construction & Maintenance Electrician certification
- Strong residential and light commercial electrical experience
- Ability to run jobs independently with remote Master Electrician support
- Experience with panels, services, subpanels, disconnects, breakers, conduit, and electrical troubleshooting
- Ability to read drawings and single-line diagrams
- Strong understanding of ESA/OESC requirements
- Professional, reliable, organized, and solution-oriented
- Valid driver’s licence
- Comfortable communicating with customers and inspectors
Solar PV, battery storage, generator, or EV charger experience is a strong asset, but not required. We are willing to train the right electrician if they have strong residential/commercial experience and a good field leadership mindset.
