As a Senior Mechanical Engineer, you will be responsible for the design, compliance, and continuous improvement of pressure-containing equipment and hazardous location heating products. You will play a key role in engineering governance, regulatory compliance, product development, manufacturing support, and the mentorship of engineering team members while ensuring safe, reliable, and cost-effective product solutions.
On a daily basis, you will:
- Design and improve pressure-containing equipment and hazardous location heating products with a focus on safety, quality, performance, manufacturability, cost, and regulatory compliance.
- Perform engineering calculations, design reviews, and prepare technical documentation, design records, and engineering drawings.
- Apply relevant engineering codes and standards, including ASME Section VIII Division 1, CSA B51, ABSA requirements, CRN registration requirements, and internal engineering procedures.
- Support ABSA and CRN registration activities, including submissions, revisions, and responses to regulatory review comments.
- Prepare and maintain engineering documentation, including drawings, Bills of Material (BOMs), Engineering Change Orders (ECOs), and controlled engineering records.
- Provide engineering review and authentication activities where qualified and authorized in accordance with professional engineering requirements.
- Develop and improve engineering standards, design tools, templates, documentation, and engineering processes.
- Provide technical support to Manufacturing, Fabrication, Assembly, Purchasing, Quality, Regulatory Affairs, Service, Suppliers, Customers, and Sales teams.
- Participate in product testing, pressure testing, validation activities, root cause analysis, corrective actions, audits, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Mentor designers and technical staff while promoting engineering best practices and design-for-manufacturing principles.
- Drive engineering efficiency by reducing design rework, production delays, late engineering changes, and regulatory submission delays.
- Support manufacturing operations by resolving technical issues and identifying opportunities for process improvement.
- Ensure compliance with applicable engineering standards, certifications, regulations, and quality requirements.
- Contribute to safety initiatives, Lean Manufacturing activities, 5S programs, and ISO 9001 Quality Management System requirements.
You are the person we are looking for if you possess:
- A Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or an equivalent engineering discipline.
- Registration as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with APEGA, or eligibility to obtain registration within an agreed timeframe.
- Seven (7) to ten (10) years of mechanical design experience involving pressure vessels, pressure equipment, or pressure-containing products.
- Strong working knowledge of ASME Section VIII Division 1, CSA B51, ABSA requirements, and CRN registration processes.
- Experience preparing engineering calculations, technical documentation, design submissions, and drawing packages.
- Strong knowledge of mechanical design, fabrication, welding, manufacturing processes, tolerancing, and assembly.
- Proficiency with SolidWorks or equivalent 3D CAD software.
- Experience supporting Manufacturing, Fabrication, Quality, Purchasing, Service, or Production functions.
- Strong engineering judgment, attention to detail, and commitment to safety, quality, and regulatory compliance.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Assets:
- Experience working under an APEGA Permit to Practice.
- Experience with hazardous location products and applicable CSA, UL, IECEx, or ATEX certifications.
- Experience with Engineering Change Orders (ECOs), controlled documentation, ISO 9001 Quality Management Systems, audits, and corrective action processes.
- Experience with finite element analysis (FEA), thermodynamics, heat transfer, or fluid mechanics.
- Experience mentoring engineers, designers, or technical staff.
