Emergency Preparedness Manager - Burnaby

What you'll do
This role provides leadership, contributing to the organization’s resilience goals, by implementing emergency management
program(s), and providing expert advice supporting preparedness and response. This role is responsible for ensuring BC
Hydro has integrated response capabilities and this includes ensuring plans are in place, they are tested and exercised, and
continual improvements are supported. This encompasses leveraging the Business Continuity and Emergency
Management Framework to govern and implement controls to identify, report and monitor risks and performance related to
emergency management. This position, reporting to the Manager, Emergency Management will work closely with Business
Continuity, integrating programs to ensure a risk-based approach to disaster preparedness and resilience across the
organization.
The major responsibilities include:
- Lead delivery of emergency preparedness programs. Act as subject matter expert on program policy, standards, practices
and procedures related to emergency management. Establish new procedures and review / modify existing based on
regulations and industry best practices, considering BC Hydro’s operations
- Partner with business units to develop emergency plans, including strategies for prevention, mitigation and integrated
response. Facilitate emergency planning efforts with business units.
- Develop and deliver training and exercises to prepare employees for emergency incidents or train employees in response
roles. Develop and deliver enterprise-wide exercises and training to ensure BC Hydro is prepared for integrated response,
partnering with and incorporating business continuity. Conduct after action reports including corrective actions to drive
resilience and continual improvement across the company.
- Liaison with external agencies and stakeholders to increase awareness on BC Hydro’s planning and response activities,
and to integrate plans where appropriate.
- Support response to planned events or emergencies bringing subject matter expertise during response and restoration.
- Regularly be on call, as part of a scheduled rotation, to support response to incidents after working hours.
- Advance the use of tools, technologies and communication systems to increase capabilities during an event. Support
readiness of Emergency Centres.
- Effectively report program and initiative milestones, including corrective actions for continual improvement.
