Bridge to Success – Inclusive Post-Secondary Education (IPSE) Program
Location: Portage College – Lac La Biche Campus (with occasional travel to other Portage College campuses as required)
Job Summary
Bridge to Care is a leading Alberta not-for-profit organization dedicated to empowering individuals with developmental disabilities through person-centred supports, community inclusion, and innovative programs.
We are seeking a compassionate, enthusiastic, and dedicated Inclusive Education Facilitator to join our Bridge to Success – Inclusive Post-Secondary Education (IPSE) Program in partnership with Portage College.
This rewarding position provides individualized academic, social, and personal support to adults with developmental disabilities as they participate in post-secondary education. The Inclusive Education Facilitator works collaboratively with students, Portage College faculty, Student Services, Accessibility Services, families, and community partners to support student success, foster independence, encourage campus engagement, and prepare students for meaningful employment and lifelong community participation.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide individualized support to students enrolled in the Inclusive Post-Secondary Education (IPSE) Program.
- Support students in achieving their academic, career, independent living, and personal development goals.
- Assist students with classroom participation, note-taking, organization, assignment planning, study strategies, and time management.
- Promote independence, self-determination, confidence, and self-advocacy.
- Encourage participation in campus life, student organizations, recreation, volunteer opportunities, cultural events, and community activities.
- Support students in developing independent living, interpersonal, communication, and workplace readiness skills.
- Assist students with career exploration, job shadowing, volunteer placements, work-integrated learning opportunities, and employment preparation.
- Collaborate with students, families, Portage College instructors, Accessibility Services, Student Services, employers, and community agencies to support successful educational outcomes.
- Develop and implement individualized person-centred support plans based on each student's strengths, interests, and career aspirations.
- Maintain accurate documentation, daily progress notes, service records, and reports in accordance with organizational policies and funding requirements.
- Participate in team meetings, case conferences, professional development, and organizational training.
- Ensure services are delivered in accordance with Bridge to Care policies, Alberta legislation, funding agreements, and Portage College policies where applicable.
- Foster an inclusive, respectful, culturally responsive, and welcoming learning environment that promotes equity, diversity, accessibility, and belonging.
Qualifications
- Diploma or Bachelor's Degree in one of the following:
- Disability Studies
- Human Services
- Social Work
- Psychology
- Education
- Child and Youth Care
- Rehabilitation Services
- Therapeutic Recreation
- Indigenous Social Work
- Community Rehabilitation
- or another related human services field.
Equivalent combinations of education and relevant experience supporting individuals with developmental disabilities will also be considered.
Preferred Experience
- Experience supporting adults with developmental disabilities.
- Experience working in post-secondary education, adult education, vocational rehabilitation, employment services, or community inclusion programs.
- Knowledge of inclusive education principles and person-centred planning.
- Understanding of accessibility and accommodation practices within post-secondary environments.
- Experience supporting Indigenous learners and culturally diverse populations is considered an asset.
- Excellent interpersonal, organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within multidisciplinary teams.
- Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office and electronic documentation systems.
Requirements
- Valid Alberta Class 5 Driver's License.
- Reliable vehicle with valid insurance.
- Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Search.
- Alberta Intervention Record Check.
- Standard First Aid & CPR Level C Certification.
- Ability to travel occasionally between Portage College campuses and community placement sites when required.
- Ability to work flexible hours to support student activities, community events, or employment experiences when necessary.
