Family Support Worker
The Opportunity:
You will be given the opportunity to support children and their families to reach their full potential and to succeed and thrive. You will support families to help them by providing opportunities for them to learn, develop social networks, and access concrete support and appropriate upstream family-centered programs and services.
Through the adoption of a strength-based empowerment model, you will partner with families and communities to meet expressed needs. With training, support, and mentorship, you will focus on the promotion of wellness and the use of upstream (preventative) programs and services. You will do this by using an ecological lens which recognizes the interdependent nature of individuals, families, and communities and the impacts of the social determinants of health. Finally, you will work to strengthen resiliency to help improve the physical, mental, social, and intellectual health and well-being of individuals (infants, children, and adults), families, and communities.
Job Duties (and activities):
- Project Objectives: Providing an experiential summer work experience through The Inclusive Hearth initiative, focusing on delivering pre and postnatal support, parent education, and child development programs.
- Connecting Families (The Opportunity Program): Utilizing a strength-based empowerment approach and an ecological lens to help families thrive and access concrete support.
- Program Facilitation: Supporting the team in delivering programs including Positive Discipline, Play to Learn Playgroups, Wiggle Giggle & Munch, Welcome Circle, Tinker Time, Mother Goose & Me, Baby Signs, and ABC Music & Me.
- The Welcome Circle: Planning and facilitating the weekly Welcome Circle playgroup to foster social networks for new families.
- Promotion and Awareness: Executing marketing and recruitment campaigns using booths and PR material dissemination.
- Event Planning: Leading the logistics and coordination for the PEI Touch a Truck event.
- Administrative Support: Assisting with the Full Circle Family Doula program, the hospital-grade breast pump loan program, and the Books for Babies initiative.
- General Operations: Performing reception duties, phone support, conducting center tours, and handling program registrations.

Formal Education/Experience Required:
- Current University or College STUDENT, preferable enrolled in a human services related field.
- Knowledge of child development principles and best practices in early childhood education.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
- Ability to create engaging emergent curriculum plans and activities that promote learning and development.
- Patience, compassion, and a genuine love for working with young children.
- Knowledge of family support principles (training is provided).
- First Aid & CPR – or willingness to obtain.
- Food Safety Course– or willingness to obtain.
- Criminal record check & vulnerable record check.
Formal Education/Training an Asset:
Current University or College student in a related human service-related field.
About this Job:
- Location: Family Place, Summerside, PE.
- Terms of Employment: Part-time 40 hours per week for 12 weeks. This position is being funded through the Post-Secondary Skills PEI Summer Student Program.
- Wage Range $18.00
- Anticipated Start Date: June 1 or 8, 2026 to August 21 or 28, 2026

Particular focus is aimed at reducing barriers to accessing services and reaching families who are experiencing additional life challenges.
