Winding Technician (Transformers)

Since 2001, IRT Integrated Rectifier Technologies Inc. has manufactured make-to-order electrical power supplies utilized in the Cathodic Protection industry internationally. We are a small team-oriented company of approximately 45 staff currently and pride ourselves on providing innovative solutions and quality products to protect industry assets and the world environment. We are located in northwest Edmonton and are seeking a performance driven person with strong attention to detail to join our team.
The successful candidate, reporting to the Production Manager (or designate), will fabricate transformers and inductors (chokes) in accordance with company procedures.
Key Responsibilities (include but not limited to):
- Prepare lead wires and other materials
- Utilize lathe equipment to wind wire coils
- Utilize oxy-acetylene equipment to braze lead wires to coil wires
- Affix required labels or markings to wound coils
- Utilize steel laminations and wound coils to fabricate transformers and inductors
- Carry out dielectric strength testing on transformers and inductors
- Affix required labels or markings to transformers and inductors
- Carry out the protective coating process for transformers and inductors (submersion in varnish and bake in an oven)
- Carry out maintenance of equipment in the work areas
- Ensure work areas are in a clean and organized state
- Assist in other areas/departments as may be required
Qualifications:
- Training is provided but prior experience with hand/power tools, mechanical assembly, winding wire coils, lathe operation and/or brazing/soldering with a torch is preferred
- Fluent verbal and written communication in English is important
Work Conditions/Environment/Wage:
- Permanent, full time, hourly position
- Day shift schedule: 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM (Monday to Friday, 40 hours, 8 hours/5-day work week)
- Day Shift Wage: Starting at $21.00 per hour (based on experience)
- Manufacturing and warehouse environment
- Must have CSA approved steel toe safety footwear
- Ability to primarily stand and walk during the entire work shift is required
- Preferably own vehicle for transportation, however public transportation is available
