We are looking for a few individuals to join our Pipe Crew as we enter into the summer season
Below is an idea of what we are looking for - but if you are eager to learn - most of this can be taught as the summer progresses .
Job Duties and Tasks
- Setting Up Shoring: Installing trench boxes, hydraulic shores, or plywood sheeting to prevent trench cave-ins and ensure a safe workspace.
- Dewatering: Setting up and monitoring trash pumps to remove ground water or rainwater from the excavation area.
- Rigging and Unloading: Hooking up pipes, manhole sections, or catch basins to excavators or cranes using nylon slings, wire ropes, or pipe hooks, and guiding the operator using hand signals.
- Staging Pipe: Moving and arranging pipes, fittings, and valves along the ditch so they are easily accessible to the pipe layer.
- Mixing Concrete and Mortar: Preparing concrete or mortar for parging manhole joints, building invert channels, or pouring thrust blocks (concrete supports used to prevent pipe movement).
- Operating Compaction Equipment: Using walk-behind plate tampers, jumping jacks (rammers), or trench rollers to compact the soil in lifts to prevent future settling.
- Tool Maintenance: Operating and maintaining hand and power tools such as quick-cut demo saws (for cutting PVC, concrete, or ductile iron pipe), gas-powered water pumps, and pneumatic tools.
- General Housekeeping: Keeping the job site clean, moving safety barricades, setting up traffic cones, and acting as a spotter for heavy equipment moving in tight spaces.
Rate
$20 - 30 /hour depending in experience and qualifications.
