Janzen Earthscaping is seeking an experienced and motivated Backfill Supervisor to oversee backfill operations on job sites. This hands-on position requires a strong understanding of grading, compaction, elevations, and heavy equipment operation. The successful candidate will lead field crews while ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, and to project specifications.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise and coordinate all backfill activities on project sites.
- Operate loaders, skid steers, and other heavy equipment as required.
- Use laser levels and grade measurement equipment to establish and verify elevations.
- Read and interpret grade stakes, site plans, and elevation drawings.
- Monitor backfill placement and compaction to ensure compliance with project specifications.
- Direct crew members and equipment operators to maintain production schedules.
- Perform site inspections and quality control checks throughout the backfilling process.
- Ensure all work is carried out in accordance with company safety policies and industry regulations.
- Coordinate with project managers, foremen, surveyors, and subcontractors.
- Complete daily reports and maintain accurate records of site activities.
Qualifications
- Previous supervisory experience is preferred.
- Operate heavy equipment.
- Ability to use laser levels and accurately read elevations and grades.
- Experience interpreting construction drawings, site plans, and grade information.
- Strong knowledge of backfill procedures, compaction requirements, and site preparation.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Valid driver's license.
Preferred Skills
- Understanding of underground utility installation and site servicing.
- First Aid and safety certifications are considered assets.
