YouthLink works towards equitable outcomes for youth in our community and, as such, is committed to equity-based hiring practices.
We welcome applications from candidates who reflect the communities we serve, particularly candidates from Black communities, Indigenous communities, and racialized people, persons with disabilities, members of diverse gender identities and people with lived experiences. We are seeking candidates who demonstrably operate and practice from an equity and trauma-informed lens. We encourage applications from passionate professionals who will help us dismantle systemic barriers and will embrace working outside of Euro-centric practices.
FEE FOR SERVICE – Social Media Specialist
(Up to 20 hours/week)
(3 - Month Contract)
Non Bargaining Unit Position
Reporting to the Manager of Fund Development & Donor Relations, the Social Media Specialist plays a focused and creative role in building YouthLink’s digital presence and deepening our connection with young people. This position is responsible for planning and producing platform-native content across Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn, and other social media platforms; maintaining a consistent content calendar; tracking and interpreting basic performance metrics; and ensuring YouthLink’s voice online feels authentic, accessible, and genuinely youth-centered.
This role is about doing the hands-on, day-to-day work of creating content that resonates. The right candidate brings a real understanding of how young people communicate online, can work independently with clear deliverables, and is knowledgeable of the communities YouthLink serves. They will be generating ideas, content, and direction to drive up engagement with YouthLink communities
Your Role
Content Creation & Scheduling
· Plan, create, and publish content across Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn, and other social media platforms (posting approximately 3-5 posts per week across platforms)
· Maintain a rolling content calendar aligned with organizational priorities and campaign timelines
· Produce platform-native content including short-form video (ex. Reels, TikToks), graphics (ex. Canva), captions, and stories
· Write engaging hooks and captions that reflect authentic youth voice
· Ensure visual and messaging consistency across all channels
· Assist with email marketing content as needed (Constant Contact or similar)
Youth Voice & Strategy
· Act as an internal “youth lens” — flagging when content, tone, or messaging isn’t landing for young audiences
· Monitor trends, digital culture moments, and platform shifts to bring timely, relevant ideas to the team
· Translate organizational announcements or complex topics into content that young people will actively engage with
· Bring forward content concepts that reflect real youth experiences, not just trending formats
Analytics & Reporting
· Track weekly performance metrics (reach, engagement rate, impressions, follower growth) using platform-native analytics tools
· Flag what is performing well and what is not, with brief observations on why
· Provide a concise monthly summary with data highlights and suggested adjustments for the following period
Campaign & Event Support
· Support broader communications campaigns by creating platform-specific assets and coordinating publishing timelines
· Occasionally attend YouthLink events to capture content (photos, short-form video) — typically 1–2 times per month
· Assist with coordination of digital components for organizational events and campaigns as directed
Outreach & Partnership (As Capacity Allows)
· Research relevant podcast, media, and partnership opportunities that could expand YouthLink’s reach with youth audiences
· Support outreach and relationship-building with aligned organizations, creators, and community partners
· Help identify collaboration opportunities that amplify organizational visibility and credibility with young people
Other duties as assigned.
What You Bring
Education and Training:
· Post-secondary education in Communications, Marketing, Media Studies, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and hands-on experience is an asset

· Familiarity with Instagram, TikTok, or other popular social media platforms as content ecosystems
· Experience using Canva or another tool for graphic and visual content creation is an asset
· Experience using CapCut, TikTok’s native editor, or similar short-form video editing tools is an asset
· Exposure to email marketing tools (Constant Contact, Mailchimp, or similar) is an asset
· Experience creating content for a nonprofit, youth-serving organization, or cause-driven brand is an asset
Additional Requirements:
· Broad Record Police Check is required.
Work Conditions:
· Up to 20 hours per week; scheduling is flexible within the week with some coordination required for time-sensitive posts
· Occasional evening or weekend availability may be required for events (advance notice provided)
· Hybrid — combination of remote work and in-person attendance at YouthLink’s Danforth office
· Occasional travel within Toronto for event attendance is mandatory
Fee for Service Rate: $20.00 per hour
A Note on Compensation
(At $20/hour and up to 20 hours per week, this contract pays up to $400/week or approximately $5,200 over the three-month term. We want to be straightforward about that. This is a part-time, entry-to-mid-level contract role suited for someone building their career in social media and communications — particularly those with lived experience in the communities we serve.)
