We currently have an opening for an Assistant Store Manager, for our Truro and area store. The Assistant Manager is responsible for assisting with the day-to-day operations of their department areas of the store as assigned by the owner or manager. These duties commonly include supervision of personnel, serving as manager in his/her absence; helping to meet sales and financial objectives; working on special projects; supervising inventory, merchandising, pricing; and facilitating communications between management and employees.
DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Open and close store
· Approve time and schedule employees per shift. Manage vacation and absences per shift
· Suggest rule or policy changes to store manager when you think such changes would improve efficiency, morale, operations, profits, sales, etc.
· Ensure that the sales floor and sales staff are ready for all promotions
· Complete the Manager Learning Plan in The Expert Zone, including all Get Managing courses
· Create regular daily tasks for sales floor associates
· Conduct department standards health check, according to schedule
· Identify development opportunities for direct reports and ensure that an ongoing training schedule is in place to support their efforts
· Provide feedback and corrective actions when required with personnel for company policies
· Develop promotions to enhance sales performance
· Understand and lead the Power Aisle Merchandising Program as well as other merchandising techniques that produce the highest possible level of sales
· Ensure that end-caps and feature displays are properly merchandised, maintained, and changed on a timely basis
· Assist customers in locating merchandising in stores, online at homehardware.ca, or processing special orders
· Maintain good customer service through your presence on the sales floor by making effective use of your knowledge of products, projects, and services. Set a good example for other employees through your ability and desire to assist customers and to maximize sales
· Utilize the six-foot (6') rule to greet all customers
· Assist customers with finding all items needed to complete their project
· Follow procedures and maintain standards according to store policy in the following areas: loss prevention, receiving and pricing goods, merchandise handling and presentation, housekeeping, reordering merchandise, restocking shelves and handling cash
· Build special displays and signage for sales, promotions, and other special events
· Audit sales and promotional displays, prices etc. and rearrange stock following promotional events
· Manage and schedule regular cycle counting and assist in taking annual inventory counts
· Reorder merchandise according to stores' buying procedures
· Lead regular store meetings, maintain training sessions, etc.
· Work on special projects and assignments assigned by management
· Ensure the store is always clean and ready for customers. Implement a schedule to ensure the cleanliness of the store.
· Resolve customer claims and/or complaints in a manner that is timely, courteous, and discreet.
· Understand the POS system and procedures related to purchases.
· Report any potential hazards and unsafe behavior to management to have the situation corrected.
· Lead the activities of direct reports to reduce shoplifting.
· Be familiar with video surveillance equipment and liaise with police to provide evidence.
Work in a safe manner in accordance with provincial and federal safety legislation
Qualifications
· High School Diploma or equivalent.
· Solid communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to interact positively and constructively with customers, suppliers, and coworkers.
· Good mathematical skills.
· Two (2) years retail experience.
· Creative abilities for making attractive in-store displays.
· Willingness to continually develop professional skills and knowledge base.
· Ability to work co-operatively in a team atmosphere.
· Confident, high energy, self-motivated, and a true team player.
