JOB TITLE: Supervised ABA Instructor (Behaviour Therapist)
LOCATION: 190 Colonnade Road
Position Type: Full-time and part-time positions available; some evening and/or weekend work may be required
Starting Salary: $22.00 - $26.00 per hour, based on education and experience
RESPONSIBILITIES
Program Preparation
- Prepare and organize the teaching environment and materials
- -Review available information pertaining to children on caseload
- -Participate in assessment activities as appropriate
Individualized Program Implementation
- Provide Intensive Behavioural Intervention (IBI) and Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) services in center, community, and client homes
- Follow prescribed programs as written and seek consultation as needed
- Utilize sound clinical judgment
- Assess individual children's skills, abilities, interests, strengths and needs
- Collect and graph data to be used to evaluate children's progress toward program goals
- Prepare written documentation regarding children's plans and progress as required
- Manage challenging behaviours including, but not limited to: aggression, self-injury, elopement, PICA, feeding needs, and more
- Assist with client personal care needs including, but not limited to: toileting, diapering, feeding, dressing, etc.
Collaboration, Consultation, and Communication
- Collaborate with other team members in the development of IBI/ABA programs and procedures - - Maintain regular communications with parents and family members as required
- Participate in scheduled team meetings and conferences as required
- Present information (both written and oral) sensitively and effectively
- Collaborate with Supervising Therapists regarding programming and child's progress
- Work within a multidisciplinary team and collaborate with Psychologists, Occupational Therapists, Speech Pathologists, etc.
QUALIFICATIONS
- A College Diploma or University Degree related to Behavioural Science, Psychology, or Early Childhood Development (or in progress)
- Experience working with children and youth who have been diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder; and/or Pervasive Developmental Disorder (required)
- Demonstrated experience applying the principles of Applied Behaviour Analysis and/or managing challenging behaviours in children and youth (required)
- Minimum one year experience working in the field of ABA (required)
- Experience delivering Intensive Behaviour Intervention (IBI) (required)
- Knowledge of early childhood development and neurodevelopmental variation
- Strong communication skills (verbal and written)
- Exceptional organizational and time management skills
- Must be available to work flexible hours which may include some weekends and/or evenings
- Clear Criminal Record Check (Vulnerable Sector)
- First Aid/CPR C Certification
- Valid driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle for home and community visits (preferred)
- Full training and ongoing clinical supervision is provided
- High level of English proficiency, as teaching the English language is a key component of the job.
