Career Opportunity:
The SMS Coordinator supports the organization’s Safety Management System (SMS) through proactive safety reporting, hazard identification, investigation support, trend analysis, and regulatory compliance activities.
This role contributes to the development of a positive safety culture across the organization while supporting continuous improvement initiatives in alignment with North Star Air’s Mission, Vision, and Values.
The successful candidate will have the opportunity to contribute to the ongoing evolution and maturity of the company’s Safety Management System as operational and organizational needs continue to grow.
Duties and Responsibilities:
· Administer and support the company’s Safety Management System (SMS) and reporting processes.
· Establish and maintain effective reporting systems to ensure timely collection of information related to hazards, incidents, accidents, and operational concerns.
· Review, triage, and follow up on safety reports submitted through Safety Manager 365 or other reporting channels.
· Participate in incident, accident, and hazard investigations utilizing root cause analysis methodologies.
· Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of corrective actions and safety initiatives.
· Maintain safety-related databases, records, and documentation in accordance with regulatory and company requirements.
· Analyze safety data and trends to identify emerging operational risks and opportunities for improvement.
· Assist with internal audits, inspections, and regulatory oversight activities.
· Support compliance with Canadian Aviation Regulations (CARs), company manuals, policies, and procedures.
· Support safety promotion initiatives including bulletins, awareness campaigns, training coordination, and employee familiarization activities.
· Liaise with operational departments, satellite bases, and management teams regarding safety concerns and follow-up actions.
· Support Emergency Response Plan (ERP) familiarization activities, exercises, and post-event follow-up as required.
· Determine the adequacy of training required under CAR 705.152(1)(f), where applicable.
· Participate in safety committee meetings and operational discussions as required.
· Perform and uphold North Star Air’s Customer Service Standards to both internal and external customers.
· Any other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
· High school diploma or equivalent required.
· Post-secondary education in Aviation, Occupational Health & Safety, Safety Management, or a related field considered an asset.
· Previous aviation, operational, or safety-related experience considered an asset.
· Working knowledge of Safety Management Systems principles and reporting processes.
· Familiarity with Canadian Aviation Regulations (CARs) considered an asset.
· Strong verbal and written communication skills.
· Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities.
· Ability to work effectively under pressure and manage multiple priorities.
· Strong organizational, time management, and prioritization skills.
· Attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate records.
· Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team environment.
· Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information professionally.
· Strong computer literacy including Microsoft Office applications and database/reporting systems.
· Experience with Safety Manager 365 or similar SMS platforms considered an asset

Working Conditions
· Overtime/Travel/Weekend work may occasionally be required.
· Exposure to airport and operational environments.
· Ability to respond to urgent operational or safety matters outside regular working hours when required.
· Participation in emergency response activities may be required.

The base salary for this role considers a variety of factors, including candidates' knowledge, skills, experience, education, and requirements for this position. Pay: $25.75-$33.60 per hour
