Position Summary:
Engineer employees are represented by The Society of United Professionals, IFPTE Local 160. As an Engineer, BPV, you will assess the safety of submissions from the clients for the registration or variance to the design of pressure retaining components and systems such as boilers, pressure vessels, piping and fittings in accordance with the provincial act, regulations and adapted codes and standards.
Job Responsibilities:
- Evaluate design submissions in relation to the Ontario Regulations and adapted codes and standards (CSA, ASME and ANSI) including:
- Review TSSA application forms and confirm manufacturer’s qualifications such as an approved QC program
- Analyze component or system’s technical drawings and calculations including performing stress calculations
- Follow up with client to address outstanding information requirements or technical issues
- Present and review submission with internal committees where necessary (e.g. variances)
- Extend approval through issuing of CRN (Canadian Registration Number) when appropriate
- Respond to client requests for consultation regarding the regulations, codes and standards
- Research changes to codes + standards and share with TSSA colleagues such as other Engineers, Inspectors and Technical Specialists
- Provide technical support to field staff as requested
- Contribute to the creation and maintenance of internal process documentation such as SOP’s (Standard Operating Procedures) and external documents such as guidelines for industry
- Actively participate in promoting public safety as a member of CSA/or ASME committees
- Participate in audits of clients to ensure compliance with regulations, codes and standards
- Continuously develop knowledge of components and systems design as well as applicable regulatory documentation
Job Qualifications:
- Mechanical engineering degree from a Canadian university or other academic program that is recognized by the Professional Engineers of Ontario (PEO) for licensure.
- P.Eng. license
- 3-5 years of engineering experience in a related pressure equipment industry.
- Candidates with the following qualifications are preferred:
- Sound knowledge of boiler and pressure vessel designs
- Knowledge of the Ontario Acts, Regulations, and safety codes (CSA and ASME)
- Software application proficiency in Microsoft Office, PV Elite, Turbo IX and SolidWorks
- Working knowledge of welding techniques and associated metallurgy and materials
