Ironwood Infrastructure is a Canadian engineering firm specializing in road-rail interface projects, with a particular focus on Grade Crossing Safety Assessments and joint infrastructure coordination. We work with railways, road authorities, and engineering firms across the country to deliver practical, compliant, and forward-thinking solutions that improve transportation safety and efficiency.
Our team combines regulatory expertise with technical excellence to help clients navigate complex requirements under the Transport Canada Grade Crossing Regulations, the Railway Safety Act, and other national and provincial frameworks. Whether we’re completing field assessments, managing infrastructure portfolios, or developing new tools to streamline reporting, we’re driven by one mission: to make crossings safer and smarter—now and for the future.
In this role, you’ll take ownership of a portfolio of Grade Crossing Safety Assessments, perform detailed on-site field inspections, write high-quality reports that meet strict regulatory standards, and work directly with clients to deliver outstanding results. You’ll also contribute to internal innovations—helping us refine our tools, processes, and approach as we continue to lead in the railway safety space.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct site visits and perform field assessments of public, private, and industry grade crossings across Ontario (and potentially beyond)
- Prepare high-quality, regulation-compliant reports using Microsoft Office tools
- Manage assessment portfolios, prioritize competing deadlines, and ensure on-time delivery to clients
- Interpret and apply the Transport Canada Grade Crossing Regulations and Standards
- Contribute to the development and integration of new technology and field tools
- Collaborate on the continuous improvement of internal templates, standards, and processes
- Communicate effectively with clients, road authorities, and railways in a professional and technical capacity
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 3 years of experience in regulatory assessments, infrastructure, railway operations, or a related technical field
- Strong working knowledge of the TC Grade Crossing Regulations and Standards
- Proficiency in Canadian Railway Operating Rules (CROR) and the Railway Safety Act is an asset
- Strong command of written and spoken English; able to write formal technical reports to a high professional standard
- Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and OneDrive
- Valid driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle (local travel required)
- Comfortable working early mornings and flexible hours
- Client-focused mindset with the ability to maintain relationships and communicate complex concepts clearly
Preferred Qualifications
- Post-secondary education in civil engineering, transportation, safety, or related field (or equivalent practical experience)
- Familiarity with GIS, mobile field data collection, or inspection software is an asset
- Experience with Power BI, Quickbase and/or other project management software and tools

Compensation: Commensurate with experience
