About the Role
Vamar Construction is seeking an experienced Senior Construction Estimator to join our Toronto team.
The successful candidate will take ownership of the estimating process from initial opportunity review through final tender submission and project handover. This position requires strong knowledge of the Ontario construction market, excellent analytical and organizational skills, and the ability to prepare accurate, competitive and complete estimates.
We are looking for a senior-level professional who understands Canadian construction practices and can work independently while collaborating closely with management, project managers, consultants, subcontractors and suppliers.
Key Responsibilities
- Review drawings, specifications, addenda, tender documents and contract requirements.
- Prepare detailed quantity takeoffs, cost estimates, budgets and tender submissions.
- Develop scopes of work and issue bid invitations to subcontractors and suppliers.
- Analyze subcontractor and supplier quotations for completeness, accuracy and compliance.
- Identify scope gaps, exclusions, risks, opportunities and constructability concerns.
- Prepare bid comparisons and recommend suitable subcontractors and suppliers.
- Maintain current knowledge of labour, material, equipment and subcontractor pricing.
- Develop preliminary estimates, conceptual budgets and value-engineering alternatives.
- Attend site visits, pre-bid meetings and tender clarification meetings.
- Coordinate with project managers and site teams during bid review and project handover.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with consultants, subcontractors and suppliers.
- Maintain accurate estimating records, historical pricing and cost databases.
- Assist management with bid strategy, project selection and final tender reviews.
- Support the continuous improvement of the company’s estimating procedures and systems.
Preferred Qualifications
- Diploma or degree in construction management, civil engineering, architectural technology, quantity surveying or a related field.
- Gold Seal Certification, Professional Quantity Surveyor designation or equivalent industry credentials.
- Existing relationships with subcontractors and suppliers throughout Toronto and the GTA.
- Experience with projects valued from approximately $1 mil to $4 mil .
- Experience using PlanSwift
- Experience mentoring junior estimators or coordinating an estimating team.
