The After School Care Leader is responsible for supporting the safety, well-being, and meaningful participation of all children within the program. This role will provide dedicated support to a child with autism while remaining an active member of the classroom team and contributing to the overall success of the program.
Key Responsibilities:
- Build a positive, supportive relationship with the child and assist with their successful participation in daily activities and routines.
- Implement individualized strategies, accommodations, and support plans as directed by the leadership team.
- Foster independence, social connections, self-regulation, and engagement through strengths-based practices.
- Collaborate with educators, supervisors, and external professionals to support the child's development and well-being.
- Participate fully in classroom programming, supervision, and daily operations.
- Build meaningful relationships with all children and support positive group dynamics.
- Assist with planning and facilitating activities that are inclusive, engaging, and developmentally appropriate.
- Provide support to other children as needed while maintaining awareness of the primary support role.
- Maintain accurate observations, documentation, and communication regarding children's progress and needs.
- Ensure a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment for all participants.
Qualifications:
- Experience working with children, preferably in group care, educational, or recreational settings.
- Knowledge of autism, inclusion practices, positive behaviour support, and child development is an asset.
- Strong communication, teamwork, and relationship-building skills.
- Ability to remain calm, flexible, and responsive in a dynamic environment.
This role is Monday-Friday 2:00pm-5:30pm. There is flexibility on leaving at 4:00pm on an occasional basis.
