This position is ideal for a motivated Structural Engineering Technologist with approximately 3–4 years of experience who enjoys variety, takes pride in producing quality work, and is looking to expand their technical skills and responsibilities within a client-focused engineering firm.
Your key responsibilities:
- Prepare structural drawings, including plans, sections, elevations, and details for residential, commercial, and industrial projects.
- Produce shop drawings for structural steel, cold-formed steel, wood, siding, solar, and other structural systems in collaboration with our engineers.
- Revise drawings based on engineering markups, client comments, and project requirements.
- Prepare small structural designs for wood and steel construction under the supervision of a professional engineer.
- Participate in peer reviews and quality control checks of structural drawings and calculations, identify potential issues, and coordinate with the project team to implement necessary corrections, ensuring accurate, high-quality project deliverables.
- Conduct site visits to review existing conditions, verify measurements, monitor construction progress, confirm general conformance with design drawings and specifications, and prepare site review reports and sign-off documentation observations and any deficiencies.
- Communicate site observations and technical information clearly with engineers and the project team.
- Develop proficiency with engineering software applications and Leekor's standard design sheets, applying them effectively to project calculations, design reviews, and project documentation.
- Prepare quotations for residential structural engineering projects.
- Communicate and coordinate effectively with clients, contractors, architects, and engineers to support project requirements, respond to technical inquiries, and facilitate successful project delivery.
- Manage multiple assignments while helping ensure projects are completed accurately, on schedule, and to Leekor's quality standards.
What you need to succeed:
- Diploma in Civil, Structural, or Construction Engineering Technology (or equivalent).
- Approximately 3–4 years of structural drafting and design experience, preferably within a consulting engineering environment.
- Proficiency with Autodesk AutoCAD.
- Experience with Tekla Structures or other structural detailing software is considered an asset.
- Working knowledge of the Ontario Building Code (OBC), National Building Code of Canada (NBC), and applicable structural design standards.
- Registration with, or eligibility for registration with, OACETT as a C.Tech. or C.E.T. is considered an asset.
- Strong understanding of construction drawings, structural detailing, and engineering documentation.
- Excellent attention to detail and strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a collaborative team environment.
- Valid driver's licence and willingness to travel to local project sites as required.
