We are looking for a reliable and motivated Carpenter / Carpenter Helper to support our window and door installation teams on residential and commercial projects. This role is ideal for someone with construction experience who is comfortable working with tools, understands job site safety, and takes pride in clean, accurate, high-quality work.
The Carpenter / Carpenter Helper will assist with site preparation, rough carpentry, opening repairs, blocking, backing, sill preparation, trims, finishing, and general support for window and door installations. Depending on experience, the successful candidate may work independently on carpentry tasks or support a lead installer, foreman, or project supervisor.
This position requires strong attention to detail, a good work ethic, and the ability to solve practical site issues while working safely and efficiently.
Responsibilities
- Assist with preparation of window and door openings before installation.
- Complete rough carpentry tasks such as framing adjustments, blocking, backing, sill preparation, and minor structural repairs.
- Help with interior and exterior trims, casing, mouldings, fillers, and finishing work.
- Measure, cut, fit, fasten, and install wood or other construction materials accurately.
- Support installers with window and door installation, including setup, material handling, lifting, positioning, and cleanup.
- Remove existing windows, doors, trims, or related materials when required.
- Check that openings are level, square, clean, properly prepared, and ready for installation.
- Assist with caulking, sealing, insulation, waterproofing preparation, and weatherproofing details.
- Read and follow basic drawings, measurements, site instructions, and manufacturer guidelines.
- Use hand tools and power tools safely and correctly.
- Maintain tools, equipment, and work areas in a clean and organized condition.
- Follow company safety procedures and OHS requirements at all times.
- Communicate site issues, missing materials, deficiencies, or installation concerns to the lead installer or foreman.
- Work with the installation team to complete projects efficiently and to company quality standards.
Requirements
- Previous carpentry, renovation, construction, or window/door installation experience is preferred.
- Experience with framing, trims, finishing, backing, blocking, or opening preparation is an asset.
- Ability to use basic hand tools and power tools safely.
- Ability to read a tape measure accurately and follow measurements.
- Basic understanding of construction drawings, site instructions, or installation details is an asset.
- Good problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Physically able to lift materials, work on ladders, and perform hands-on construction tasks.
- Comfortable working indoors, outdoors, and in different weather conditions.
- Reliable, punctual, and able to work well with a crew.
- Willingness to learn proper window and door installation methods.
- Valid driver’s license is preferred.
Preferred Skills
- Window and door installation experience.
- Exterior envelope, flashing, waterproofing, or building wrap experience.
- Finish carpentry experience.
- Renovation or deficiency repair experience.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision after instructions are given.
Position Summary
The Carpenter / Carpenter Helper plays an important support role in the installation process by preparing openings, completing carpentry repairs, assisting with trims and finishing, supporting installers, and helping ensure each project is completed safely, cleanly, and to a high standard of workmanship.
Pay: $22.00-$40.00 per hour
