Job Summary
We are seeking an Estimator with specialized experience in Mechanical, Electrical and Instrumentation / automation to join our team.
This role is based in Port Coquitlam, BC, and is a hybrid work arrangement. Our estimators work through proposals helps to build the foundation on which each project’s financial performance is built, so it’s critical they deliver clarity and a high degree of accuracy. Teamwork is key to achieving this. The candidate will work closely with the outside Sales & Estimation Team and the Project Management Team. The specialized knowledge in electrical instrumentation and automation systems will allow them to provide valuable insights and recommendations for selecting the appropriate equipment and selection of systems for boiler projects. They will advise and work on the best practices for integrating these components into the boiler system proposal.
Responsibilities
- Develop strong relationships with clients, vendors, and suppliers, external & internal.
- Analyze and review RFQs, tender / bid documents, and specifications relating to boilers, boiler systems, boiler installations and associated ancillary equipment.
- Upon analysis and review, identify and develop project scope of work and perform optimal equipment selection and system design like preparation of single line diagram, draw out / sketch out simple concept drawings. They will be involved in preparing scope of work document for vendor, prepare basic P&ID if required. Prepare Line List, Valve list, and Piping Specifications.
- Acquaintance to ASME B31.1, B31.3 is an asset
- Effectively determine the bid strategies required for the company to be successful.
- Perform accurate RFQ/Bid qualifications to ensure company resource efficiency and optimization.
- Prepare detailed cost estimates including equipment, materials, and labor necessary to successfully carry out a project in accordance with client specifications.
- Solicit, evaluate, and negotiate subcontractor bids and vendor quotes for services and/or products as required.
- Review and prepare draft format for formal quotations/proposals to be submitted to clients.
- Provide estimating support for not only plan/spec but also design-assist and design-build delivery methods.
- Provide timely constructive feedback to direct supervisor regarding project bid status, risks, and concerns.
- Maintain all bid related technical document, drgs and proposals
- Attend pre-bid meetings as and when required, including traveling to and conducting site visits to ensure the scope of the project is fully understood and estimated accurately.
- Prepare project kick-off documents and participate in project kick-off meetings with PBS Project Management Office (PMO)
- Participate in presentations to management and clients.
- Maintain files of working documents as a backup for estimate figures including up-to-date, accurate information on prices from suppliers and subcontractors via direct contact, price lists, etc.
- Understand code compliance and use it in estimation processes.
- Review and provide reporting as to the profitability/accuracy of previously estimated projects.
- This position will also need some cross functional working with mechanical system like piping and installation once competency is built.
Requirements
- 2-3 years of minimum experience in an estimating position.
- A bachelor's degree or Diploma is typically required. (Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related discipline)
- A strong understanding of electrical and instrumentation systems, including sensors, transmitters, control systems, PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers), SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) systems, and wiring diagrams is an asset.
- Strong knowledge of construction processes, materials, and pricing strategies
- Proficiency with Bluebeam for digital document management and markup
- Familiarity with HeavyBid or similar estimating software tools
- Excellent negotiation skills with vendors, suppliers, and subcontractors
- Ability to manage multiple projects efficiently while maintaining attention to detail
- Construction experience that provides a solid understanding of project workflows
Pay: $75,000.00-$85,000.00 per year
